It seems like it's time to remove the tome limits

I think it's mostly a pacing issue. Gearing in all tier if you wanted all jobs takes the entire time. Next week I'll finally finish the Caster set. Just a couple of weeks to spare.
The unlock always feels very late, and only in tier 3 we get the tome doubling. There's other issues...
Like how in tier 3, you get the Relic weapon then a month later you get the echo. If you got the Relic Weapon, then you already have this massive boost. The Echo comes too soon! That thing should be last minute!
Yet more things... The Alliance has "Catch-up gear", but it has stinky stats and one per week, at the same item level as Augmented Crafted?...

There's a lot of issues that add up, to where it doesn't seem to make sense in the modern day. Maybe it made sense when I wasn't playing (heavensward), but as it is the system doesn't really let people catch up, or easily experiment after they beat the tier. And when it does it pulls all the triggers so close together, they don't give you time for it to matter. At the start of the tier 450 tomes and everything is fine, and makes sense.

To start with the cap should just go up each week instead of being 450 every time
e.g week 1 it's a 450 cap, week 2 it's a 900 cap taking into account what you earned week 1 etc
this way if u start late you aren't far behind for no reason

Im just one isolated example, but i only log in to do extremes or savage.
And lately ive started learning other jobs.

Getting full bis for the job makes me feel effective but the journey to get there is laborious. I have all the savage items before i get the tome items which doesnt make sense.

My opinion is that the tomestone cap discourages the exploration of other jobs for someone like me.

It also has the side effect of lower numbers in party finder because i cant join on alt jobs to fill groups. And i suspect there are others in the same boat.

Now the reason i believe the cap exists in the first place is to ensure subscription. The math works out that the cost of the items versus the cap, means you'll be farming tomestones into the following month.

So it puts them in a difficult place because financially, guaranteed subs is their ultimate goal but at the cost of player friction.

I believe the content (savage) should be the limiting factor not time (weekly limit) to getting said items.

Augmented crafted gear is only available in X.1, X.3 and X.5 that means one has to wait entire patch to even out their second favourite role to their main role (with the assumption they don't raid). That again limits them from doing stuff they like - they can't for example fill in as their secondary role in farm parties for older extremes or other activities where the community imposes a ilvl limit that more-or-less matches current expected iLevel that one would get if they played every week and got tomstone gear or in .1, .3, .5 if they got upgrades from alliance raids on top of that.

Tomstone limit could stay for .0, .2, .4 aka the release-of-savage patch. Considering a VERY long time between patches .1, .3, .5 should abolish the limit, as there is no point to still keep it, there is no content in these patches that is so high end enough (outside of maybe ultimate... sometimes) that would destroy the balance if people were able to gear more jobs fast. i will risk saying that game would actually be more alive if people could farm stuff faster as there would be a point in actually playing the game - getting 450 tomes is a matter of one evening, maybe two. Then there might be no point to play until reset in a week.

I agree. Besides of that there is no point to queue into any Daily Duty Roulette or the Second Walk as I don't receive any tomestones/coin I would need.
It also should be in the users/player hand on how much the user can and will to play and grind. If I wanna run Sandoria 10 times - give me 10 coins. Just because the argument like:
"Other people don't have the time to catch up" is subjective.

In the Real World if you don't have time to catch up you will be left behind as well. This is the kinda Millennium mentality of "Everyone is a winner" - back in the days where MMOs were something "new", you either catch up or don't - no "crying".

It's made to stop you progressing much, a.k.a thinking that this game offers a lot of content but it doesn't. It's one of the well known game sins that exist.
