sorry for his lost.
I condemn any kind of RMT.
So, he is to be banned according to the rule whether he like it or not

But it's not easy. Or at least it's not fun. Rouls earns you absolutely no adequate gill for your time. Maps are fun only if you limit it to once a month, and then you can't just queue them, in PF you too deal with all the usual BS, with FC they not a good way to earn gil as any FC worth it's salt runs not just the latest maps but everything from HW so everyone gets to have 'fun'.
"Are you having fun yet?"
Is there anyone still subbed who actually plays for fun, rather than the outside of game RP, and the high end meta un-fun?
Pretty sure your doing something meta , optimal, trdious if you think earning gil is easy. Or probably even high end drops where the real gil is made. Crafting QoL improvements who knows what. Get no benefit of the doubt from me.
Gonna be honest-as I usually mostly am. Lot of responses here are cringe.
"I dont feel any sympathy!!" "He got what he deserved!!" "Why should I show empathy for anyone who-"
You should show empathy because empathy is a basic human instinct, and the only instinct we have that separates man from beast. You're only alive today because of the empathy of the hospital staff that delivered you safely despite your annoying cries that continue to this day.
It's a video game, so no I don't care if someone gets caught doing something bad, whatever, it happens. It's something you're always going to see-usually younger people or newer players do this to themselves. First offense for something like that should be maybe a month or two ban. Not permanent, that's silly. You don't even get rid of actual bots permanently, so getting rid of the few players remaining permanently is silly. Should offer them another chance. Always hate the sin, not the sinner-especially if we're literally talking about a video game.
They also need to be a lot more clear about how exactly ban for each and every exact offense work. FFXIV bans have historically been very vague and inconsistent, and that is not a good way to operate at all. Reading the ban page myself right now, and it is re-confirming that to me. They talk about there being an offense scale, then offense points accumulated, then end with a very wishywoshy "sometimes we might skip all this and do even worse, but sometimes not". Utmost clarity should always be the goal. It should never be the case that some people are punished harshly, and some arent for the exact same offense. Has to be the same across the board, otherwise you just end up having to punish + lose more players because they dont actually know what the real punishment will be. "well maybe the gm had a bad d-" if im not allowed to pms at work, gms arent either. "well we dont even want those p-" Dont care, dont type that at me-be more clear about exact punishments, thank you. "Well the rules-" don't care, don't type that to me either, I'm talking about specifically listing in great detail the ironclad unchanging punishments for every offense there is, thank you.
Ironclad unchanging list of punishments for every offense there is, thank you-I took the time to type that twice, because I already know someone is thinking to copy and paste a link that directs me somewhere that has nothing of the sort, because reading comprehension is apparently a luxury afforded to few-don't subject me to that, I like to pretend the future still has hope. OP, have your friend appeal and beg upon the mercy of FFXIV court. He might be fine. He should be sincere in his apology and regret though. Goodluck.
From my perspective, it seems like your underlining my point. According to you, there is little difference between RMTers and the people who use crafting gathering QoL advatages (QoL), saving for one is more honest and open than the other. You certainly wouldn't have an RMTer in here disingenuously acting as though QoL addons aren't a 'massive', 'HUUUGE' advantage over the woeful state of the infuriating, friction at every button press, barest minimal help, state of the game as is. Endlessly complicated recipes that none overcomes without just getting straight into crafting optimiser (or far worse).
Not that you have suggested such, but others most certainly have. As others have seen me say before.
I wanted to do savage.
I want to do it after I have cleared Ex.
Ex takes all my time for two weeks, I don't have time for anything else.
I want to be ready geared for Ex and Savage by only doing casual and normal content.
I need to be geared in two job roles.
Need to be ready for savage in two roles in time for week 2,3. (So normals and tome gearing with it's caps are useless, not to mention tedious and boring after 4 to six weeks)
I'm not doing the tedious meta gil farming methods.
Rouls need to earn way more gil than they currently do, or crafting frankly needs to be fixed. There are currently a hundred ways it is broken in the game currently.
There is no way there are any serious crafters + end gamers on console. I just don't believe it.
Dedicated passionate crafters, not doing raiding, yes.
Raiders not doing their own crafting yes.
Not raider/omni-crafters. (Unless you want to count the odd very rare freak , and good for them, but thats not any of the average Joe's in these forums with their "you should do what I'm not even prepared to do myself")
And yet you type the cringiest response of them all while entirely missing the point only to side with offender.
Honestly I'm losing so many brain cells with all the people who are siding with the RMT players and feeling bad for them. It seems like showing sympathy for rule breakers seems to be the norm in this game.
THIS
The truth is my personal insight has been overloaded this expansion and thus woefully lacking.
Because despite chaotic and, FT the real reason why I have left, and will probably never want to come back it's that the community in FFXIV is what I loved about the game. The rouls have been tedious for years. Nothing has really changed.
May bar for MSQ is very low. I had loads of fun making my own fun going through DT. I loved Wuk Lamat, i thought the voice over complimented her naivety perfectly.
But chaotic showed me that the community now really sucks. FT hammered it home like I wouldn't have belived.
Ex 4 was hard but at the end of the day I gave up not because of that, but i got sick and tired of PFs tearing each other apart, not because anyone was in the wrong, but because noone was wrong, and as usual the reliance on crap guides and DDR strategies caused the whole problem.
(No hope for the raid planner as I doubt it was made by anyone who plays the game in the *non cohesive* culture of the west)
And that community now dominates, because unlike me most people do have a more sophisticated pallet and discerning taste, and they have left. Zepla is a perfect example. Generous, genuine empathic, but also balanced, and I'll say again genuine, can stick to a principle, but also shed it when self examination finds it wanting.
Now it's just self interested raiding 'achievers', and low IQ social malcontents with an axe to grid with anyone who makes it hard work for them to stick to their incoherent lunatic principles.
I remember in novice training it taught really valuable things like "say hello"
The parable of Edda and the party that tore each other appart with recriminations.
The commendation system, where once upon a time, it was NOT looked down upon that you always gave your commendation to someone. You didn't hold in reserve "only for those found worthy!" Like some kind of t@ss#r. Who the # do these people think they are. It's pathetic.
And absolutely, you *always* waited for first timer cutscenes. Even that has now gone.
This is SE's job to fix, and it is going to require them to get off the fence, be a bit judgy, and yes they are going to have to upset some people that they ought not to be worried about upsetting.
People didn't make this community great, the game did, it's the game that has ruined it through their action and inaction (e.g. SE FORCED mare to both have to exist and to then become huge) and it's the games job to fix it.
Finally, reading the forums is a bit depressing lately, I just can agree with you. Bans should be more clear and equal when applied, if it is not the case. And I hope SE could find a way to punish and ban bots better, they take housing space and they also grind on new players/starting zones and can get really annoying, I guess it's not an easy thing to do tho... every online game deals with similar problems.
That sucks for your friend, and it’s unfortunate they were banned when others simply got a warning. That’s just how it goes sometimes times, even in ‘IRL’. Ex-friend of mine ended up doing years in prison with no parole for bringing contraband into a prison and selling/distributing to inmates. Other CO’s in the past received a less harsh punishment, but the system wanted to make an example of him. Maybe this is a similar case? Maybe dev’s wanted to make an example or crack down harder?
Only advice really is to start over and make better choices if they want to stick with playing. Your friend might need other coping mechanisms though, therapy is expensive, but maybe have them look into other outlets such as exercise or drawing or music, or any other hobby.
They can spin this as something good. Maybe it’s time to finally start that house project, or learn to play an instrument- something they’ve been putting off.
TL: DR; this can be seen as good, the ban free’s up your friend for a different hobby to better themselves
