Let's talk about physical range jobs

It's funny, BRD gets a tiny potency buff, and it it somehow the worst preforming DPS job in the latest extreme fight. It's personal damage is within tank levels, but it is expected to handle adds, on its own, that are tuned for DPS jobs, and it is still at the bottom even with its raid buffs factored in. If we're going to get get more fights like extreme 5, then BRD needs more buffs, and flexibility changes.

I mean... that DPS check is so low, it doesn't matter whether you do 6% more or less damage (yes, that's the whole spectrum we're talking about here) has absolutely 0 impact on whether you can clear those adds comfortably or not. This is not a balance problem, the check was probably kept intentionally super-relaxed exactly to ensure it won't be.

I'd rather play DNC instead of BRD for EX5. I knew it from the first time that I saw the adds that would be a bad idea to play BRD.

My understanding was MCH only got buffed because it's AOE was so poorly suited for A6S.

But, I fully agree that Machinist is designed as the "baby's first raid job" as it feels tailor made to fit PUGs. It will perform about the same in any fight in any party in competent hands. I freaking love the job fantasy of being a gadgeteer or artificer, so I play it, but the skill ceiling is actually really low.

That said, I really wish the devs would embrace phys. range as the DPS supporter jobs, but Machinist would need to be fully gutted and remade, and I don't know it the devs want to lose the niche they made for it.

It would be for the better... IDK if Machinist can exist in a healthy way being into a group where the other 2 outsource their rDPS also outside of the 2min meta. It would be either too good to bench the other two or too weak because how well the support aspect (Songs / Dance Partner) scales.

MCH could live as a damage + debuffer, which could be a niche also filled by a future rPhys, making a parallel with how the other 2 buff their allies (BRD whole party / DNC a single person, for more).

party dps role restrictions should just go away and the dps should be more closely tuned to eachother. Ironically giving people the choice to run without a melee, mranged or p ranged gives individual jobs a better chance to see play. This way we can make machinist closer to actual selfish dps without invalidating bard and dancer because they don't just steal the single p ranged slot.
