They said the game will shut down only for a few weeks before 2.0 release (so char data can be ported over) and betas will be playable at the same time as 1.0.
Sure, why not? It's not like our characters are used in beta..

then the ... maybe 20,000 of us currently playing who will actually apply to Beta should all get in,
because they'll still have plenty of room left over for new people, even in the first stage of closed beta. ;)
