I for one do not want to have to wait until getting a craft near max before I can make any money off it. That's going to happend if you implement something with a sales history.
Market Ward or AH, this is always going to happen. Sucks, yeah, I know but it's the general truth. The gear that last the longest, and benefits the players the most (and that looks the best as well for some) will always be the gears that will sell the most. Usually, as in not always, it will be the current highest level gears, which required higher level craft to make (and repair).
There's already a system for price history, it's just not in the game. Even then, there's a number of people selling stuff which is also an indication. People are always going to refer to YG for current price to sell or buy stuff. It's just the way it is.

I don't think it could harm the economy either. If nothing else, an AH linked to every city will help crafters who don't spend their time in the economic center of their server. On Besaid it's Ul'dah. Ul'dah wards are packed to overcrowding, whereas Gridania wards are pretty much deserted and Limsa is somewhere in between.
Still, though most gear and some odds and ends for crafting are a huge pain to find because of this, I'm pretty much on the fence as to whether they actually need to add an AH right now. If they do, it can only help, as far as I'm concerned.
Kind of little point to have linked Market Wards, unless the search system can search all 3 wards, and buy directly from the wards (non-local wards should probably have slight tax and require delivery or whatever).
It's going to be moot in the long run because when Ishgard is open, it will likely be treated as the new gathering point for the players, much like Jeuno was, but on the other hand, this is hard to say due to its location.
As it stands, whatever city is where the most player gather will be the economic center for the said game, and that economy center should have much larger ward with bigger capacity or multiple wards, however that needs to be done in order to support much larger player capacity.

I for one will start farming materials so crafters don't need to, but how the hell am I supposed to tell what to farm?

An auction house has alot of problems. Paying a fee to put items up and the definition
caused by sales history.
Market Wards still have fees too, and fees on the Auction House are often very little, unless you're selling items that are worth a million or more, then it gets pretty hefty, especially multi million gil item like Peacock Charm or better yet Speed Belt or Kraken club. Those cost so much to sell that people just bazaar em outside of cities. Same thing will inevitably happen for Market Ward.
Plus, it's a form of gil sink that we need, despite how small this gil sink is.

Market wards solve this problem and a better retainer search will solve the problem of the economy.
Think about it, the real problem is there's no scoping what people want. Yes an auction house fixes this, it does this because of the sales history.
The sales history has negative effects, that's why they didn't want it and because everyone flocked to R. Fields they figured taking not of that would help create the best solution to deal with that.
I'm pretty sure they said they will continue to improve the retainer system, which is needed anyway. However, You still have to pay for selling items, even though the price is small, so from that stand point, it is minimal that most people just don't care. Just like the auction house. the only tiem when the fee have a REAL impact is when you're selling stuff that are in 8 digits or more, and that's when the fee REALLy starts to hurt. Same thing will happen in the marketward, even though it will be smaller because the fee is much smaller than the auction house.

It would also add some interesting factors like PvP quests.
You should know that PvP will likely be done on a very minimal scale, much like FFXI. So only the extreme minority will care how stuff works in PvP situations.

Also, if you add an auction house without a sales history your not solving the problem of people not knowing what others desire.
Not really. It's all a similar system in the long run. You search for item for two reason: Buy em, or find out what price you need to sell the stuff.

In my opinion not implementing an AH in an MMO is like removing levels.. its wrong, and I will NOT support the current system.. I never use the market wards.. EVER.
I'm going to be brutally blunt here. It's impossible to play the game without relying on the Market Ward. How are you going to get the gears? How are you going to buy the gears? How are you going to store your excess stuff if you want to play this game seriously? You can't really. Hell there's even a (and I will admit I think the limit is too strict) on how much stuff people can put in the bazaar, so it's even inefficient to look around people's bazaar outside of the Market Wards or wherever else in the game.

Personally, I'd just prefer they they make it so that your retainer has to be at a stall in the market wards, instead of standing out in the middle of the floor. We'd need to make the wards about 5x their current size, but it would be worth it to avoid having to wade through people whenever we go to a populated ward.
This, I absolutely agree. As it stands it's much of a pain to wade through the market wards (and thank god the reason character bumping change made this much more bearable). I really would like a way for SE to fix this.
In my opinion, being able to buy item directly from the 'search' will probably solve the problem better than the space issue, but hell, there's some wards that have so much retainers that it's impossible to put new retainers there due to space limitation.
Ah well, while I support the Market Ward, ultimately, I really don't mind whether SE really do add an Auction House or not. Right now, It's a huge redudant feature at this time. It works fine as it is, with a few improvements, that SE should just focus on more pressing matters first (IE, the Battle system, class abilities, hell class itself first) and then go back to the Auction House later on.
