I remember doing Shinryu my very first time back when Stormblood was the current expansion. It was by far the hardest fight I ever experienced up to that point, and I was so overwhelmed I dreaded ever having to do it again. The big diagonal swoop attack that covers almost the whole arena felt basically undodgeable.
Of course, that was a long time ago and I was newer at the game. But a huge factor is also the gear people had on at the time. Playing that trial now, everything feels like a breeze and Shinryu dies way too fast.
I completely agree with you OP, the ridiculous way this game syncs down players (or doesn't) is just sad.
Also, sorry about that jerk in your party. Most people in this game seem to be pretty cool, but there are always going to be jerks in this world wherever you go. Some are very impatient and don't like slower runs, and those are the people who will be more vocal and act out.
I mean, it sounds like you're enjoying the game, despite some of the fights being disappointingly brief. If you've stuck with it this far and had fun, I don't think you'll regret going all the way. The story alone is more than worth it.
