This. If the party wasn't taking unavoidable damage then you knew exactly when to turn it on and when to turn it off. And with it on, all you could do was dps since it swapped your stats. I did it. I was good at as well. It was very rigid and boring unless the party was going pear-shaped. I much prefer the flexibility we have now where we can weave dps in around healing and stay a lot more active in the fight doing a variety of things. It was also janky, which is why "healing in cleric stance" was such a meme.
