Why do you still play FFXIV?

Final Fantasy is a series I enjoy as a whole, and most issues others have, I.. really don't have. Most of my frustrations are minor or not too important in the grand scheme of things. Are there things I'd like them to add/fix? Sure. But I don't have big issues with the story or direction, it's an enjoyable story, world, lore, and music for me. I can take breaks when I need to, and I'm currently just doing some pvp stuff for the rewards before the next patch in a month's time while playing other games until something draws me back (the moogle tomes will, but I only need like, one or two things and I can grind that out in a few days).

But I've made friends, we do things, we talk, couple of us rp... I just enjoy playing the game.

For me it's less about "keeping playing", and more about "no reason to stop".

It's decent enough to be entertaining, yet casual enough that require no commitment. Never gonna become my queen, but I'm more than happy to keep it around as a permanent concubine.

It's enjoyable as an RPG, and then there's the aspect of glamour and playing around with character designs – and since I prefer to do that with additional characters rather than Fantasias, there's almost always some new idea I'm pursuing that needs someone levelled up or unlocking content.

And then if I get as far as I want with my current characters, my brain will go "cool, now you can make that additional character you designed when you were playing around in the creator" and it starts all over again.

I just legit enjoy the game :3
And even despite its flaws in endwalker, I very much love the story. And am excited and curious to see where its going next.

Ok yes this to. This is the best MMO for Controller Support. Other MMOs on controller dont feel as great.
And the music is amazing in this game.

No new good MMO for years and years. The sec there something even ok that do end game fine I jump from ff14.

Been here since 1.0 and had been playing WoW and this back to back, then stopped playing WoW when the story went full pants on head levels of stupid in BFA.

Basically I stick around for the story and the world and the gameplay is fun enough. Why stop?

Because the problems are minor. If they were significant, SE would address them. That's how bugs in most games work. They ignore minor ones and address significant ones.

For example, the map isn't very intuitive, but you get used it fast and then it's not a problem. They did add giant red arrows to indicate the exits better, but it's still not very good until you understand how to use zoom to navigate it, identify when quests are in a nearby area and click the map button in the journal to find objectives. Because you get used to it, it's minor.

All of my problems in the game amount to minor issues that are easy to ignore. When people always focus on negatives instead of positives, they are just being negative. It's one thing to raise a negative amongst all the things you find positive, but it's another to just only see negatives where ever you go and never be able to say anything positive.

Excessive invisible walls are annoying, but minor because they are overcome by flying. Excessive loading screens are annoying, but minor because modern hardware can make them load in a second. Clicking players who are doing positionals and losing a GCD is annoying but rare. Quality of life issues like this usually get fixed, but they take years because they are minor and a low priority. Flying in ARR is an example of one that did get addressed eventually, but there are others such as buffs resetting when you wipe, being able to teleport into a dungeon boss fight if it got pulled before you got there, or being able to stack 999 items instead of 99. Things like that didn't used to happen but were quality of life fixes. But they were always minor things that on their own were not going to make you dislike the game.

I like the story and how it has a focus on emotion. That doesn't register with everyone but it does with me and final fantasy games in general are good at the type of writing that invites you to empathize and feel things.

I like the effort that goes into the music, environments, effects and boss fights. Everyone works hard to make a great game and it shows. It would be easy to just do your job and go home but they are making something they enjoy as well and it shows so I'm here to enjoy it as well.

my friends play this game and we don't have a lot else in common game-wise. that's the main reason.

there's also sunk cost fallacy, there's zero competition for XIV, the leadership of my FC fell into my hands so i have to show my face every now and then, and also i'm one of the depraved scum of Eorzea who still have multiple houses on my account.

gameplay wise though, i basically raid log though.
