Players, who spent years building their characters, whose rigs and equipment cannot keep up with new engine should just abandon their characters and go away. My ideal MMO is better off without them

Be it a remake or a direct sequel I would welcome a new Final Fantasy XIV as I'm getting tired of this one, I don't think an MMO should last more than ten years and to expect to have players subscribed for so long is absurd.


If I were Square-Enix's CEO I would have started making the next MMO two years ago, they'd wish they had done it when the player-base begins to thin.

Whether people like it or not FFXIV has already begun descending slowly after its final prime (being EW).

From ARR & beyond the game had a phenomenal recovery & success. Right now we’re in “limbo” stage till we get January’s patch for yet another short but enticing content to do & a month later or so we’ll relapse to limbo onxe more till again for the next patch.

FFXIV is not “dead” & most of the community will keep on it…after all, FFXIV’s social have & activity with people is still going strong despite the MSQ & endgame content & over time, it will too come under its “social” decline as there will be one strong MMO that has yet to reveal itself, or maybe it’s the end for MMOs eras as we long knew it & just see what the future gaming sorts may bring.

I am not sure how WoW fares any different with Dragonflight as it is already way below the mountain after its prime.

I’ll be honest, we may enjoy a bit more of the game within perhaps 2 - 3 years from its future expansion after EW (unless SE pulls up a bigger surprise for us) & just stagger along the months & naturally decline.

Till then lets enjoy what we have & our ffxiv community of friends from afar before they depart elsewhere as it is with irl sadly but hopeful (as Dr.Seuss said “don’t be sad it ended. Be glad it happened).

Short answer, no.

Long answer, I would rather they just invest time into an entirely new game than rebuild an existing one. Especially now when the game is kinda hitting critical mass. The main plot is over, and the plot is jumping the shark more and more…

Moreover they have already said the plan is to do short 1 expansion stories from here on rather than long term multi expac archs.

So…yeah, I hope they take lessons learned from this MMO, and use that to make a better game in the future.

…that said I would be down for minor tweaks like fixing the physics/jumping engine, or working out the UI to be more PC friendly.

I think you are conflating the idea of an engine change and a graphics or engine upgrade.

WOW has never changed engines. It has upgraded the engine.

The graphics engine is still built on the core Warcraft III graphics engine with a couple of changes here and there. The biggest change did come with WOD, but that was a graphical overhaul. They didn't swap out the engine.

The overall engine is the same engine that WOW launched with back in 2004.

Fair, but to say it refused to visually change (which is what they replied to) is incorrect. You can see the differences between Classic and Retail even right now.

No, i didnt, and it never has either.

its the same wheezing, bug riddled old engine in desperate need of an upgrade..then again the entire game needs a massive overhaul, not the least of which is to move to modern day gaming paradigms, losing the FOMO aspects and their current predatory models to keep you subbed through a humungous list of mandatory daily chores, getting rid of "wurld pee vee pee" and quite frankly, needs to move towards respecting players time.

That INCLUDES disposing of their useless, archaic, outdated ,worthless "faction war", which passed its use by date ten years ago.

Much more needs to be acct wide, cross faction needs to be fully implemented ACROSS THE BOARD, along with closing and merging a lot of their ghost town servers. They are bleeding players, I very much doubt their new expac will do well for long in terms of retention for the reason that in the end its "raid, pvp or do m plus, if not get out" mentality will serve to show that the devs have learned NOTHING in that last decade.

Simple research will show that as far as open world is concerned, they have done very little to keep people occupied and engaged. Even their vaunted " copy of Palace of the Dead" became yet another mandatory grind, instead of what it could have conceivably been.

What WOW needs is a new engine, a new approach, fresh faces and eyes.

As it is, the game is stagnant , will continue to lose players when the new car smell wears off players will see what they have left is the same as all other expacs, one long grind after another.

I am sure people will tell me how many copies they sold "Its a success", big whoop...now tell me how many will be left after a few months.

Personally, I don't. I don't FFXIV-2 either. I'm much more excited and looking forward to a completely new FF MMO. I want a fresh experience.

Okay, I messed up saying they changed the engine. They only upgraded it. From what I gleaned the first commenter talked about how people are bound to get exhausted of an MMO that stays stale visually for 10+ years with developers refusing to change it, and the second cited WoW as an opposite of that opinion... when WoW had an upgrade, graphical change - what have you - when WoD came out. That's all I meant to say TBH.
