I'm not seeing how having glamour be open for all jobs would suddenly start making people gear incorrectly. XI has a "free-glam" system, and basically any gear can be applied to any job as a glamour, with the only requirement being that you have to be able to equip it normally as well on the job it's actually intended for. So for example, if you want to use a level 75 healer piece on your Dragoon, you'd first have to have your healer up to level 75 before you can start using that piece as a glam item.

And again to clarify, you're only using the other gear as a glamour. It has nothing to do with the actual equipment you're wearing for stats as those are still tied to all the specific jobs.

The little box of of equipment shows what I am actually wearing, and you can see that it is for THF only, but I'm sporting that lovely WHM glam on top of it. XI does allow you to use AF (as in the SS), but I imagine SE could keep those excluded in XIV if they truly feel the need.

And like people before me have noted; the devs recycle assets from one role to another role All. The. Time. So to say that they don't want certain jobs to wear this gear because of "artistic visions" falls flat on its ass.

The only valid reason they are not doing this is money. The cost to profit margin to be exact. And even I know that's a poor excuse since this game is known for its glamour and unlocking glamour restrictions would drive people to play this game more because they'd either need to get the glamour they want and/or level the job they want the glamour from. So that leaves one thing left, pure laziness.

So, I myself am only going to stop calling the devs lazy if they give me actual proof as to why they cannot do this that DOES NOT involve: "but it'd be hard for someone to distinguish what job someone is playing if they could suddenly wear anything and everything". When you have the likes of pig, chicken, chocobo, moogle and frog suits. The Legacy Warrior armor. All the PvP heavy armor sets. Constant recycling of role gear assets. All the ARR vendor caster robes. I personally would be willing to accept the impossibly for glamour restrictions to be lifted if the devs actually told the truth. If the real reason is technical trouble then fine. Just the devs need to come out and say it for themselves.

And as for the topic of this thread. Forbidden glamour I'd want to use, the Republican Signifer's Horns on healers. One single circlet. Oh my goooosh, how will I ever know what job they are?! They're gasp gulp wearing a circlet.

Not if they have to restrict everything if they want to restrict a single specific thing. They recycle and reassign some gearsets, not everything. Job gear never gets reused, and as I said, I think that's the sticking point.

If they have to keep your circlet locked down to casters to also keep the job gear sacred, and they are specifically concerned about keeping the job gear sacred, they may do that even if they wouldn't actually care what you use the circlet on.

Anyway, I am sorry for detailing the thread. I just think that saying "this individual item doesn't need to be locked down" is missing the point when it probably isn't the thing making them keep the system locked down.

Deveryn's pathetic attempts at trolling aside, I'd say it's best to not derail this thread by turning it into another discussion about the restrictions themselves.

Yeah... Headgear especially is really annoying to deal with. Take an eyepatch for example - what dictates which class receives an eyepatch instead of something else ? I personally would love to have the Eden's Verse one on my Paladin. Same with the Healing headpiece from the same tier.

I can count on one hand the amount of people that use job AF gear as serious glamour. If it takes the job AF gear being unrestricted to be able to use a single circlet, then so be it. Unleash the job AF gear. You can already make jobs look like other jobs anyway. There are plenty of outfits that can make people look like Astro that aren't Astro's AF sets. There are plenty of outfits that can make people look like Warrior that aren't Warrior AF sets. There are plenty of outfits that can make people look like White Mage that aren't White Mage AF sets. Etcetc.

Edit: To be on topic again. The Arhat Hanbo of Healing to be used on any job. There is literally nothing else like it in the game. It's kind of sad that the only headpiece in the entire game that looks like wrestling headwear is healer only.

We already have a thread detailing why restricting glamour outside of development time, limited resources and technical limitations is BS. This thread is to prove that despite those 3 valid reasons it is a worthy persuit for the devs to look into within the game's life time.

Do we have an official source that says as much? It feels that every post I see from you is always playing this 'devil's advocate' based purely on speculation...

We don't know how exactly the code operates... such is that there is a tiny unprecedent addition to the latest EW artifact sets: the small padlock interface with the conditional of having that job to level 90 (edit: role quest complete) to turn an item dyeable. It might feel unrelated but that's actually a small bit of proof that the glamour system can change, since we never had such a thing before.

how pinched and joyless does someone have to be to come into a thread of people just....using their imaginations and start listing out reasons for why it's futile to even play around with ideas? No one's labouring under any assumption of an easy fix or implementation - people just wanna muck about making glams even if it's just in the try on window -_-

This thread is great and I like the theme of 'forbidden glamour'.

For me, it's not even about clever combos (though there are definitely some I could make, and the less said about having to store half a dozen versions of every nice earring model at high level the better - and feeling unrewarded that the nice DoL/DoH sets I've worked for are basically useless unless I fill my entire glamour dresser plate collection with stuff nobody will ever see out of towns anyway).

I love most caster gear. I hate most healer gear. In many cases the two are the same model with the caster version simply having better dye patterns, so I can never make the healer version look as good, but my character looks fantastic in a lot of caster sets and I just want him to look that cool all the time. It doesn't have to be AF. The Archfiend Attire is my permanent glam on several classes right now because I've given up on getting exciting healer looks but 90% of my personal 'forbidden glamours' would simply be full caster sets only not limited to casters so I can actually use them in group content. There are so many great ones. I want to wear them!
