Castrum Novum - battle strategies and wins

We not to long got done doing this like and hour or so ago, what we had was 3 wars who position them selfs between transmitter and generator.

Whenever someone would get hate from the Vanguard they would kite it arround to avoid the lighting aoe while the rest of the people keep atking the generators.

Then onces the adds pop the wars would voke and fight the adds in the same spot, cause sc would hit both transmitter and generator along with other adds, oh and whms would stand in the middle. Once the adds started poping the wars sole priority is to voke and aoe the adds forget about direct atking the generator or transmitter sc does good dmg on them from aoe, also keep in mind to have them keep voking the pop so whms dont die. rinse repeat.

during the adds part if the vanguard is attacking a war or someone else just kite it till it goes after someone else and then like usually person who it switched hate too kite and so on.

We also had a drg and mnk and brd which stayed on the transmitter at all time and if vanguard on them they kited.

and we have 2 whm. Hope this helps for people out there :D

NOTE: their is no point trying to kite the vanguard at start or anytime other than who has hate, cause it will go after whoever does most dmg to the generator/transmitters. plus it doesnt hit hard at all expect for light aoe which you kite it if u get hate after the intial adds start poping.

We won on our first attempt with this strategy. (It was our second attempt total, the first being a "let's see what's inside" attempt.)

When you first enter, don't even touch the generators. Have a tank (preferably a PLD for shield skills) tank the mech. If you have a couple WAR, have them help DD and manage the adds.

Once the mech is down, the whole thing gets a LOT easier. The WAR will keep the adds in check while everyone works to bring down the generators.

Everyone keeps saying to kill them at the same time, but we just killing in a clockwise formation, and they didn't ever reactivate all at once. They seem to give the transmitter a straight damage reduction, and it's NOT immune to damage with at least one down.

If you can keep two generators down consistently, you can deal good damage on the transmitter. Defense down from PLD's Riot Blade also works wonders. In all actuality, you'll have all three generators down for a fair amount of time for good damage.

For those of you wondering combo positions:

Generators - The "front" is the side facing the transmitter, thus making the wall facing side the "back".

Transmitter- The "front" is the side facing where the mech starts. The back side faces where your party started.

Bleeding and Defense Down can both be inflicted on the transmitter, and both are of wonderful assistance. I'm fairly certain I saw things like magic evasion down and such as well, so keep on it!

Setup was PLD, WAR, WAR, BLM, BLM, WHM, WHM, BRD

Not sure if this was posted yet, but we tried plenty of strategies. Even had a BLM designated to each generator and we'd rotate flares. However, in the end, it all came down to just doing a simple WAR burn. War gets hate? You get to kite!

It was a simple and efficient way, just had to save TP for cyclone when adds popped.
Set up: whm whm drg war war war war war

This place lags me badly.... tried a few times last night to get to the fight, would wipe on passing Gate 2... area usually shows clear but isn't actually, 5-6 invisible mobs get to beat you down.

Though reading this, we only went with 5... probably would have been beating our heads against a wall if we actually got to the fight.

We killed on our first time in last night, lol.

2 WAR, 2 WHM, 3 BLM, and a random DRG.

Both WARS were kiters. One for the Magitek, the other for the adds.
Each BLM took a generator. The DRG would help one of them out and then all would focus on the thing in the middle.
Both WHMs stood in the middle to cure. Easy, can pretty much reach anyone kiting.
When hate reset, whoever had it would kite til it reset to someone else.

The end.

(Was messy, but as it was our first time in, we did well.)

Easy mode? Easy mode.

2 whms, 1 brd, 5 wars.

1 war kite tanks the magitech. 1 war in the middle. 3 wars killing the generators at the same time.
1 of the 3 wars at this point will get hate. What to do? Simply rotate. Whoever got hate starts kiting, and the one who was kiting goes to kill the generator when it respawns.

Repeat.

Just be fast and aoe the crap out of the adds (no need to focus too much on them). With non-kiting wars in the middle, it's also very easy to hit every generator with steel cyclone.

Of course it's faster with 3 dds (drg/mnk) instead of 3 wars, but war is more solid, can kite easily after getting hate (because whoever kills the generator gets hate) and doesn't mind the adds. Also a lot more aoes.
Blm as dd is pretty useless in this fight and it can't kite as a drg/monk(FoW) or a war.

However I believe it's possible to to it with a lot of different setups (at least have a tank and 2 whms), I'm only providing the easiest way.

As we entered the stronghold, I got in first, not triggering the CS probably because I passed the triggering point on chocoback. Then I got stuck between two doors and got killed. At that time my part said "CS" but didn't elaborate more. Thinking it was a CS along the ones we get when we enter, say, Natalan for the first time, I thought it wasn't important.

And so we went through the stronghold, making our way to the fight and winning on, like, our 6th attemps, at 2h30 AM my time. When we won, I realized I was alone outside the instance and not getting the CS.

Man was I pissed. >.> I'll have to redo it tonight, but at least there are many stats posted now. I just hope I'll easily find a group this evening when I log on.

I need to try this again tonight. The responses here are very helpful.

Seriously though, the only decent part about this stronghold was the goobbues.
