The flash is gameplay wise purely for visuals. There is no positive gain from the flash other than just making it visualy look strong. Just like a car can have a very powerful sound, but still be extremely slow in a game.Quote:

As the flash has no meaning for others, having it optional is a good thing.
And yes, this is a design issue. As there are many things that are part of design, but can have downsides with them. Crunching sounds when someone is eating, as a healing sound effect can be disruptive to some, while for some its immersion. Good design should enable to substitute these things with something that in general can be accepted. And its down to the devs on how far they are willing to go. Too much and some will call it dull/excessive, too little and it will keep players away. Or another FF related thing: the fireworks effects in any city. At some point its just boring audio clutter that disrupts music. And it doesnt matter if its ingame music, or a spotify playlist, it disrupts for absolutely no purpose other than 'immersion'.
At least, if it doesnt require a lot of effort, its in many cases worth to consider it. Especialy during reworks, its something that can be improved a lot, and maybe you can even use this for diffirent features as well improving the game overal. Small steps can have great results.

I sure have a hard time seeing the Poison Squall/Surge bait AoEs in P5s under the boss because that seems to be right when SMNs summon Titan and it drives me nuts.

So many complaining about not only the flash-i-ness of the primals being summoned but the fact that the primals are summoned over and over again...
I'm not sure if those complaining about this primal rotation played SMN when we only had igi's but this is a god-send approach to playing the Summoner job in FFXIV that many, MANY of us asked and begged for from the beginning. We went from a dot-class to an actual summoner class when we were explicitly told it WASN'T POSSIBLE! (If I had time I'd find the thread when Yoshi himself said it wasn't possible and that the igi's was the best they could do)...
!
So I for one, am VERY VERY happy with this re-work and praise the Devs for making the job do what it's namesake says... SUMMON. Now add more, gives us Ramuh, Levi and Shiva.... somehow let's work their magic into our DPS rotation and rock it out!! -

Personally I just feel they compensated the totally dumbing down of a class with flashing cool looking spell effects so there would not be to much backslash about completely removing any complexity from a class.

They should probably create fights that avoid red, orange and yellow colors to mitigate Ifrit and Titan dumpster fires blinding the whole arena to where you can't see mechanics.
Fulminating is right btw. Flashy job that summons bitching monsters does shit damage with a restrictive kit and ties Aetherflow to it's 2 minute burst in Searing Light. You have to time it right to get 2 R4's and 4 Festers/Painflares and go straight into Bahamut/Phoenix.
It's needlessly clunky and I hate it.
I can choose Bahamut or Phoenix in PvP but can't in PvE?
Crimson Cyclone doesn't break combo in PvP but in PvE it does?
That's bad design and reeks of spaghetti code.
2 dungeon runs of Troia really shows the difference. One run had a Ninja and Gunbreaker and we got Scar to 35% before the add phase and another group we only got to 49%-52%.
The class looks cool but for how damaging the effects look you hit like a wet noodle.
And if a person dies you have to tank your already low damage to res someone because you know they are going to do more DPS then you.

EDIT: I wish there was a way to make both sides to this opinion enjoy SMN - I'm not asking to change it and say screw you to those that do enjoy the new SMN. But as it is right now, it's simply repetitive, the phoenix heal can only be used at very specific times when phoenix is summoned, and the same applies with the shield. The carbuncle just stands there waiting for a treat by my ankles and it has also just been pushed aside lazily with no creativity.
The primals could have been implemented in a way that makes us feel like we're using them more creatively if we could summon whatever primal for whatever given situation we're in, rather than just "okay first is bahamut, okay now titan, now garuda, now ifrit, then phoenix, and now repeat..."
And seeing multiple primals with very flashy moves gets annoying; they're just....everywhere like every few seconds.
EDIT II: I wish SMN could have a higher skill ceiling like BLM; I feel like it absolutely could, but now it's one of the most braindead jobs to play. /shrug
