they are vastly inferior. a small sized house is over twice the internal size, and has an exterior to decorate.
your point is invalid simply from the standpoint that owning a house does not mean you cant own an apartment. you can have both.

Housing also includes apartments. So yeah, it's an easily attainable feature of the game.
Nothing to see here - get an apartment and quit whining, right? Betting you have a house, so you come here to look down on the little folks.
SE's housing advertisements clearly show a house. "Housing also includes apartments" might be your definition, but it's not mine.
For SE housing is mainly about FC houses. Anybody can join a free company with the house and enjoy their slice of Eorzea in form of FC room. Social ones might even be able to befriend FC leader and decorate. That's the main housing. Apartments are bonus. Private houses luxury.
Unfortunately, it's also SE's definition. They're the ones that must be convinced to change the system.
It's not going to work out too well if players keep saying "there's not enough housing" when the real problem is there aren't enough houses for every player that wants one.
So how many wards would we need to have for every single player to have a house? Lets not forget about player growth so a new house would need to be generated for every single new character on that server.
Also Housing is apart of the game, but did they ever promise you a house?
Also housing demo is needed. Have you ever read that book Wayside School? Where 1 elevator only went up and the other only went down. And it only worked once. Could you imagine, if players got to permanently keep a house when their is an extremely limited supply. Eventually ward 1-24 would be nothing but abandoned plots of players who may have long been quit years ago with no intention to return, and you have no way to purchase one until they added more wards, and even then once all the plots sell nobody is getting another house until new wards are added. Would you prefer that?
Id rather have to login periodically to make sure i keep my house, then some bozo feeling entitled to turning his house into a permanent fixture once they quit for good.
<< Person who does not own a house, but has an FC room (or apartment on an alt), which is housing.
You might not like it, but don't pull the "You got yours and I can't get mine" card, since you know nothing about the poster to whom you responded other than you didn't like the message.
Jojoya I mean no disrespect here - but can you (or someone) point to where SE defines housing? All I've seen is that advertisement that has a clear picture of a house.
I'm making a presumption that apartments are not housing. Forum posters that disagree with me are also making a presumption. This seems to be due to a lack of communication on SE's part, which we only care about due to a supply vs. demand issue.
The Lodestone post about opening up more houses for personal use acknowledges a supply issue. SE would do themselves a big favor by saying that they plan on addressing housing supply in future patches; what they're doing now does not come close to addressing it.
Without demolition in place and with the wards so full on many servers, this problem could continue for years like it already has.
In my opinion they're going to lose a lot of players over this and it could be avoided.
I'm sure SE uses the actual definition of housing, just as most of the rest of us do. Here, I looked it up for you:
There's no presumption going on.Quote:

houses and apartments considered collectively.
"a housing development"
I absolutely agree that SE has not only poorly designed the system but also poorly promotes it so it lends the impression that players are supposed to be able to get a house and not just an apartment. That's no doubt due to apartments not even being added to the game until patch 3.4 so originally a house was the only option.
But it's also normal for advertising to highlight the best of a feature instead of the more common elements. If you're watching a trailer for a movie, you're going to see the action packed clips instead of the clips where characters are just talking to each other. If you're seeing an ad a cable or satellite service, they're going to be showing clips of sports and popular movies, not clips of the local evening news or a nature documentary.
Anyone who eats fast food knows that what you see in their ads is not how your food is going to look when you get it.
And so SE uses a picture of a house for their housing advertising instead of an apartment. It's the standard way of doing advertising.
It's promotion that's the problem. Advertising is only one part of promoting products. If SE isn't going to change the system from what it is, then they need to up their promotion game to make the realities of the system apparent to players.
