Endwalker is the most controversial expansion

Indeed. That or play any number of video games. Final Fantasy IX. Dragon Age Origins. NieR Replicant. That's 3 video games where your party members actually undergo character development and with villains that have believable motives.

Even other games who use time travel like Final Fantasy XIII-2 wasn't nearly as bad as the shenanigans that Endwalker pulled. With the void being directly teased now, I struggle to find confidence that the current writing direction won't make a mess of things.

They'll either cheapen it with more obligatory slice of life scenes in the middle of a floating vortex, which will somehow have a 24 hour Burger King up and running, or speed through it so quickly that it ends up with a resolution even more disappointing than the Garlemald role quest.

I don't like it when FFXIV is criticized as a "visual novel anime game" and yet that is what it's fast becoming by playing into trope after trope.

Some people have taste and some don't, and taste comes with experience from you being subjected to tasteful things. As for the painting art as subjective, I've seen people taping banana to a wall calling it art. Now you can believe it is, but it won't stop me from stating it isn't, because we've all seen real art and deciding to be delusional because you like something that is just not good is totally on you.

So your argument is "it is because it is"? You have absolutely nothing to contribute to your ramblings. Nothing. What is "tasteful" has been defined by culture since the beginning of times, so tell me how your idea of "good art" is better than someone's that was born in a whole different culture, from a different continent. Your ridiculous idea falls flat when a good number of musicians and painters were shunned and spat at for daring to do something different than the norm.

Ain't middle school philosophy when most games, shows, etc, say the exact opposite. Most games have some 2D hero philosophy of no one being sacrificed and all suffering can be solved with effort and friendship. This is real world philosophy in a game. It's called Existentialism and was Friedrich Nietzsche's solution to Nihilism. Most works including real world philosophies preach slave morality or objectivism. Also it was quite thought provoking given it's answer to the Fermi's Paradox. That being a dead space due to Nihilism and even civilizations that reached perfection died to it due to post-scarcity. If it doesn't seem groundbreaking it's more than likely due to the fact you reached it outside of a game in which case, you're not the audience my comment was directed to as like me you understand philosophy.

Also I've more than likely seen more anime than you and also no, most anime goes with slave morality and the 2D writing found in most fantasy. Only some actually go for real world.

Where did Endwalker dare to do anything 'different to the norm', exactly? It embraced so many of the dullest tropes in existence such as 'rules for thee, but not for me', 'genocide is okay when a pretty lady does it' and 'character is dead but literally minutes later is brought back to life'. All alongside plenty of flashy and very impressive backdrops that, ultimately, amounted to very little of consequence.

The fall of Dalamud ended up leaving deeper scars upon the land than the so called second coming of the literal apocalypse. The only lasting consequences in Endwalker are, conveniently, inflicted upon antagonists and very minor throwaway characters of little relevance in the grand scheme of things.
