Worst housing system in the world

@OP: i'd disagree with the thread title: games like archeage made it so that while land was available, you effectively couldnt own it no matter how hard you worked--because other players with large guilds or tons of money could just roll in, camp you, take the land, and hold it for the lifetime of the server (other than the occaisional guild counter-raid for a keep or somesuch).

which i mean is sorta how old 14's housing was (except with swarms of bots), and current 14's lottery theoretically gives the advantage to large guilds in terms of buying power (everyone in the guild bidding on the same plot to pad the lottery odds), that's only for FC houses specifically.

i say theoretically because we've only had one lottery so far, and wont be having another until they roll out the corrections from the "winner 0/no lottery entrants" error to actually allocate the housesto the folks that actually won (from their recent updates on the topic).

Legacy players, basic and full sub players. And this is barring exchange rates in different parts of the world.

Practically. As in , the actual process, practice, and reality of the situation, yes. People are paying different rates.

If by practically you mean something that doesn't mean practical, then you using a world poorly is not my failing. If you wanna chew on the right or wrong of that feel free, but facts are facts. The fact is not everyone who plays the game pays the same amount to do so and even without optional services this is still true.

The absolute truth is that we all PAY for access to the game in one way or another.. but that does not guarantee access to all content equally. The fact that we pay different prices is mostly moot, because OP is just complaining that they don't like how they don't have access to housing when someone else does. I can understand the frustration and hope that someday soon we have some sort of solution beyond apartments for those who want to participate in everything housing offers.

They then however go on to try and hint that we SHOULD be able to buy into housing if we have more resources which would be unfair.

All in all the sentiment I share is on the first page: The OP has a point but is presenting it in tantrum form.

This is why I accused you of being a lawyer, because it was totally asinine. No one cares if "he's right" because what he said was redundant in the first place. Do you get it? All of those options are opt in and again, as far as I'm aware, none of the disallow you from accessing housing.

It should guarantee access to the content; because it's not content that's meant to challenge you to "obtain it" like an Ultimate (especially because it isn't content that can be challenged, right now it is just RNG.)
None of this discussion even matters. Yoshi P groans and make faces whenever the topic of housing is brought up for discussion. There's a good chance no one at SE cares. Additionally I dont even think it matters how he presents it at this point as long as it isn't manifesting in death threats. Constructive criticism seems to have barely no effect, and all the deliberation people made on the housing system amounted to nothing, because they didn't even bother to tell us they were making 2/3 of the wards FC only, retroactively, and making all wards all lottery. If they had, people would have probably voiced some opposition and maybe they would have refined it a little bit so many of the FC housing wards wouldn't look like this. Or I suppose you could hope they would actually take some feedback.

The bottom line is again, there simply is not enough medium and large housing for demand. It should not be artificially scarce. The smalls go unpurchased because people generally are not bidding on them. People should stop eating up the lie that it's not possible to have instanced housing, as if there is no benefit to the amount of active subscribers they have and doing so would put them in the red. That is a bare-faced lie. They can do it, they don't want to because it would mean they have to reinvest some more of the time/money we pay them back into the game.

I didn't play FFXI, but that housing system upon reading seems a lot better. Free for all? An apartment where you can actually participate in gardening? Storing items? That sounds pretty neat. I wouldn't mind that being adapted into ffxiv.

Unless they changed it at some point after the Moogle Kupo de'aut expansion FFXI "housing" was extremely limited in fuction. First you had to purchase furniture in order to do anything which took storage space. You could use furniture to turn 1 storage space into multiple home storage spaces. But home storage spaces could only be accessed when actually inside your mog room in your home city. As for gardening. each pot took a storage space. Oh there was also a system involving room elemental balance which also came from the pieces of furniture you used. And you also had to account for what day you planted what sapling and which day you watered your plants if you wanted anything worthwhile from it. The room also had a floor space about the size of a bedroom to place this stuff in.

FFXI was also menu based so it literally was just a list of slots. I think the mogsafe started with something like 20 or 30 slots. I don't recall if mogsafes had expansion side quests to do like the gobbie bag quests for your personal inventory.

Could be like GW2's hosuing system... Wait that doesn't exist. Granted its not as nice as ESO's but most of ESO's house cost a ton of real money and are all instanced anyway.

While yes, instanced housing would be nice. instanced housing also requires a ton of server space for the current most popular MMO in the world. Mind you we only got instanced areas at expansion launch due to clogged up servers due to everyone buying Endwalker going above and beyond expectations leading to long, long wait times to enter the game. Meaning they don't have the base server space until recently just to fit everyone in the game. instanced housing is above and beyond that. If your sub and everyone's sub could pay for that before we'd chances are have it. We haven't due to server costs and will probably get it sometime down the road simply due to how many play it now. Housing has always been a luxury end game thing not really required for the game and thus has been put on the back burner. Which, much like PVP, they're only trying to rework now since the main story (for this massive chapter in it) is done. A new story in the works, thus they have the time for it.

As for the new lottery system, they stated if you read the update logs the issue wasn't the lottery itself but displaying of data. People didn't actually roll 0's it displayed 0's and they have the data of who won despite rolling a zero. Thus those who won but rolled 0 are getting the house. Those who lost and rolled 0 are not. Those unaffected are unaffected. You got the lottery. It's a step in the right direction.

You pay a sub to play the game not have everything in the game. But a chance too. Well my friend lottery is all chance. And you win or lose. I won, you lost. Reroll.

It's pretty close to the worst system. Definitely in the area of accessibility.

I agree that doesn't sound ideal as a long term solution, but if the apartment system in ffxiv has as much features as moghome, that will help soothe the current situation somewhat. As it stands, ffxiv apartments is just a small room like a moghome, but you have to pay for it and have less features like gardening and storage space. I don't think having to buy furniture to do anything is too bad. It is housing, so I think it is par for the course. Furniture taking up storage space does suck though.

I would like square enix to make the current apt system to have at least as much features in ffxi. I don't think that's too much of an ask, they've done it already in their own game released in 2002.
