I think it won't be easy for SE to track all of these transactions (who took out gil, who didn't take the refund, etc etc). In my opinion, that ship has already sailed. The "0 winner" plots, even with just 1 bid will go up in the next lottery.

But it has to know which lot belonged to which FC. Not sure the game tracks that piece of information and that would be what is needed to undo things without costing FC's houses.

While I see what you stated being a huge problem for SE and players affected, if they are able to rollback, which they should be able to, the gil spent should go back...right? You do bring up some good points, but as I originally stated, the rollback makes it fair for everyone involved. You also stated that they should have said something about them acting on this earlier if they were going to revert it...you are indeed correct that the longer they wait, the worse this is going to get.

They should just re-roll based on the old data set. I'm sure they have a snapshot of all the tickets along with the names of the participants from the moment the entry period closed. They should simply use this data set to roll on all the plots where the result was 0. I think that would be the fairest solution - those plots didn't get a winner so we'll just roll again, there will be no new participants, everyone who had a ticket in that time will get the same chance they had if there was no bug.

That said, realistically, there are of course tons of other issues like the ones Breezelyn mentioned earlier and I could add even more to the list, for example - if those who participated and took their refund have already spend the gil on buying things from the market end up winning the new roll, what should happen to the gil? Should they trace every single penny and return it to the owner, then also return the items purchased on the market? That's just unrealistic and at that point we're basically talking about a full complete server rollback which will make tons of other people upset. Why should everyone who didn't even participate in the housing lottery have their progress rolled back.

It really is a mess and as you've said, it's unavoidable that some people will remain upset even if you make the mathematically and logically correct decision. I just hope whatever decision they make, it will be one that causes the least amount of additional damage.

I completely agree VarHyid. What really sucks, is that the longer they wait, the more complicated this is going to become.

Agreed.

For the people that already collected their money, I guess the only thing that could be done is asking to deposit again when you claim your plot. Have people spent their gil already? The plot is then lost, and goes back on sale. Unfortunate, but a rollback would cause more damage.

It's interesting to me that people actually trust SE to pull off a clean roll-back when they couldn't even pull off a successful housing lottery.

Sounds like a huge can of worms to open up for lots that didn't land on 0.

Sometimes the best thing to do is to just fix the bug and make sure it doesn't happen again.

And I'd say that this is one of those situations due to the fact that FC's could have moved house.

Did you read the latest update they posted about this?
0 was never actually an entry.
Plots which had one entrant were won by that entrant. Plots which had 5 entrants were rolled between 5 entrants.
There were no extra entries.
"0" is just a placeholder to indicate the error in transmitting those results to the housing server.

None of us knew the system was bugged. Everyone who entered the lottery was on the same playing field. People who got their new plots should not be punished, because SE screwed up with something in the coding. The team messed up, yes I get it. However, these players should not be forced to reroll again, due to a lot of other factors that could make the situation much, much worse. If they can find which lottery number won for each bugged plot, it would be better imo.

Easy the plot has not officially been put on the market due to the lock down reset would revert them right before the move with thier gil in tact before they made the purchase for the new land and any extra purchases. I mean I thought this community was all for helping each other but that only applies to certain things but if I got mines then everyone else that does not can piss off.
