There shouldn't be any rewards or "status symbols" for being a Mentor at all, in my opinion. The reward should be helping people, and that's it.

Its the usual response.
If you complain about something or share how something you don't like could be better, lots of people will respond by then go play another game :)
I spend a lot of time in Zodiark NN and the vast majority of time the questions, answers and discussions going on are nice and civil.
Like any other public space (ish) there will always be someone with a bad day or with an agenda to disrupt, but one can't let those rare occurrences alone determine that the chat is terrible or something to be avoided.
I wish that mentors that doesn't actively participate in the NN chat would get removed from the channel though, to make space for the ones that do participate and help. One typically sees the same smaller amount of people offering responses to things being said, and if these players can't get in because of mentors that doesn't chat have been auto joined in and are taking the space, then it might negatively affect the assistance given to new players and returners.
Simply disabling the auto join Novice Network should do the trick for that..
I join the novice network to kick other mentors. Their egos literally cant take being told they are wrong or uneducated on a subject that way.
This also annoys the hell out of me. Odin NN is filled to the brim with mentors, but you always see the same handful of mentors actually answering questions and engaging with newbies or helping out. All the other mentors are... just there.
On topic, during the time I've spent in NN, I've seen mentors kick people from NN 3 times, and 2 of those times were mentors drunk on power, as people would put it. In one of those 2 times, the mentor even did it as a joke (someone had posted the message: "Eff this. I'm out of here" by mistake in NN), but they got kicked themselves by another mentor immediately. The second time, a crafting mentor kicked someone who clearly posted a 4- or 5-line macro in NN by mistake. Anyone actually reading the chat would've surmised as much. This mentor was just a lurker that never ever interacted with anyone in NN and that the active mentors didn't know, and said mentor apparently left the NN soon after kicking the sprout. Like, the dude was a ghost in NN for God knows how long, and then the one time they decide to make their presence known, they kick someone for a mistake and after they had apologized? -.- People like the ones in these 2 examples are probably not willing to be real mentors, yet their actions affect all mentors' reputation, which really sucks.
All this said, the OP's story sounds like it might be lacking more background info and history for anyone to make a fair judgement. Sprouts/returning players are no angels either, and some of them can be annoying, rude, etc.
I'm a mentor and NN is just a cringe memefest full of "good ol boys" mentality. Honestly it's what I imagined the atmosphere was like at Blizzard before the lawsuits just with slightly less sexual harassment. Same attitude though.
Just stay away from it.
Zodiark NN is perfectly fine. A few bad apples don't represent an entire community, you shouldn't have been retorting with insults and if you feel you were unfairly kicked report it to a GM and they'll investigate (they take unfair NN kicks rather seriously).
Labelling the entire NN as something to avoid because one or two people didn't agree with you is nonsense.
