SE are leaving BLM to rot by giving SMN and RDM even more utility

It may be a DPS loss but part of the reason I bring my redmage with me to raid is because I *do* enjoy rezzing. Obviously I’d much prefer it if no one died, but being able to quickly rez someone on the spot and then slam back in to my rotation is extremely satisfying.

Not to mention the utility aspect of my job. I might not be the best, damage-wise, but regardless people bring me in because I’m helpful to have around.

Losing Raise would be an even bigger DPS loss overall - if healers are dead, or if DPS are dead and healers swiftcast are on cooldown, then overall the group is outputting much less DPS than they would otherwise. It may be a personal DPS loss for 3-5 seconds for the RDM/SMN, but healers having to wait/healers being dead is an even bigger DPS loss over time.

Yeah, even with RDM's MP economy not being able to support many back to back rezzes, their rezzes are still very valuable.

Damage is almost always going out in this game. Just because it heals slight damage doesn't make it useful.

None of this makes it "flavor" and not utility, that's still an absurd thing to state. If you want to be more precise, you'd call it situational utility (like other abilities in the game).

Great healers will take Phoenix's hefty heal into consideration when/if possible and adjust accordingly. Less than great healers won't, but that's also why they are less than great.

A player living or dying won't depend on Mantra, Minne or RDM's barrier either, it still doesn't make them flavor and not "real utility".

Maybe if a healer is trying to get a 100 parse in Ultimate. Mapping Everlasting Flight to the timeline in order for two healers to get 99 parse together is not required. You have to understand that healers have too many healing tools that trivialize content to just Glare and Broil.

Losing abilities during the main expansion patch cycle IS pretty shocking, actually, unless they're wildly unpopular or part of a rework to a job.
... The former being untrue in this case and the latter being redundant now.

Exhibit A on why I don’t take half of these suggestions seriously, if they even suggest anything besides “I don’t see a problem, it’s petty”

With all that said, OP seems to forget that BLM'S "utility" even right now is its massive damage. Hell, speed meta since Verse has brought Samurai despite Dragoon and Monk offering all kinds of buffs. Why? Their buffs aren't enough to offset Samurai's raw damage. Admittedly, there are other factors at play but sheer damage is still a major contributor. The only thing OP is correct on is statics will typically want you to play RDM/SMN for prog. While that can be understandably frustrating, the change to Embolden now means statics can more freely drop a Melee without punishing their RDM. This restriction is also only really prevalent in the more sHC and HC groups. So if you don't have those aspirations, then it really doesn't even matter. You'll find a static as a BLM.

I'm probably the rdm they're talking about in specific, if not one of them.

If rdm were to lose Raise I wouldn't lose any sleep over it. I am feeling free to disagree with people who find their entire joy of the job of scraping people off of the floor. There is a role for people who like to manage other's health bars in the game, as desperately abandoned as they usually are.

Don't get me wrong, I raise when needed and often get told by my healers to hold off on raising and let them take care of it. I have a tool that if I see a situation that tool addresses, I'll use it. I just don't particularly see the value in constraining two of three casters with that ability and causing weird balance discussions like this.
