Being able to attempt to buy a house is subject to the availability to empty plots. Ex trials can be started at any time.

A single attempt to buy a house can take up to 12 hours. An ex trial takes what, 15 minutes?

And last but not least: You're guaranteed a mount after 99 clears of the ex trial (so after 25 or so hours of farming, maybe some more to account for inevitable wipes), regardless of whether you ever won a roll for it or if it even dropped. There's no such guarantee for a house.

Leaderboards aren't required for something to be competitive, nor does it need to be PvP specific.

The marketboard is a very competitive place. Have you not see the threads that pop up about undercutting on a fairly regular basis?

Why would they separate gardening from housing? Because I'd hope they would recognize that because the supply of housing is so limited and until they are ready to assign the necessary resources to change that, the lack of gardening can prevent players from crafting to it's fullest extent. Getting lucky enough to get house or permission from the FC shouldn't restrict you from harvesting the materials needed for general crafting. **i'm defining general crafting as anything with materials that don't involve mats from ex trials or the like**

Housing might have originally been designed for FC use, but they have for some time expanded their updates to account for personal use housing. They do still prioritize FCs (rightfully so) with the current supply so theoretically, they can maximize the amount of people that can enjoy housing.

Yes, but as you can see, people happily throw back the response "but everyone who wants to can kill Eden Savage, can kill TEA, and get their loot, its infinite!" So I find it's better to compare it to Saint of The Firmament, or to the top-100 Feast mount. Only a certain number are awarded per server. And some went to players that are alts, because they're driven people. That is not wrong, it's simply the nature of an MMO.

I completely agree. I believe in a previous post i did compare it to top 100 feat mounts. But i would expand you comment in that there is only a small percent of the community that complete savage raid for the mount and an even smaller percent that can complete the ultimates for glamour. It is perfectly normal for an MMO to have content that makes you have to compete for it.

And for those who are going to argue that clicking a placard for 15+ hours straight isn't really competing, then i would say you're foolish to put yourself through that, its unhealthy, completely your choice, and not the intent of the devs.

Maybe not but it’s the result of their bad design nonetheless, the lotto thing didn’t come out of the sky just like that. It’s because they’re trying to fix a bad system implemented on top of another one to fix an original design that was giving a lot of ground to RMT and shady deals. Still happen today and will happen tomorrow because this camp’n’spam method will still be there along with house trading.

Again, comparing obtention of mounts from Savage or not is a very bad example. Anyone can work for it and with enough work, get one.
Hell you can even come back once the content is made easier as you level with expansions.

No big deal, because it is not a supply problem unlike housing. That’s the core issue and difference some of you can’t see for some obscure reason.

Sorry but that's a bunch of BS. No crafter needs to be able to garden to craft any item. The marketboard exists for a reason - so players can buy/sell items that one has and the other needs.

Lack of gardening only means lack of self-sufficiency and that's actually bad in a MMORPG where player interaction is part of the experience.

Still, SE needs to do something about the housing situation so every player can have access to all housing features as long as they meet the stated requirements to purchase.

The lottery does not fix anything. It just shuffles the problem around. All it does is guarantee that player to player house sales will be rely more heavily on transfer of FC leadership.

That's def what's going on now. There's a few people snapping up FC houses for subs, but way more are just people who want A house, and can't get one without placard clicking hell. There's no real gil sinks in the game, so people have a lot of excess gil lying around, so why not just pay someone else for an FC house to decorate? With how easy it is to transfer gil through the FC chest and pass over FC Master, people are making a killing just flipping houses if they win them.
