Open World PvP

Personally I think this game is increasingly stifled by the obsession that a portion of the community has with what I can only describe as a misguided push for 'purity' of the lore. Mysteriously this obsession never extends across the board. There's plenty of interviews where Yoshi-P has stated outright that the game isn't a matter of 'good' and 'evil' but merely different perspectives.

I don't think every last little thing added to the game needs an explanation for why it exists. PvP is a common feature in pretty much every MMO that I've played. Do I think the development team would bother adding open world PvP? Probably not - if only because PvP is arguably the most neglected part of FFXIV overall in the present day.

A specific area of the game world considered to be 'no man's land' where any and all can visit and fight each other for treasure, coin and glory would easily fit into the game's story, though. We've already seen constant quests where the player character moves to kill someone or something for no real reason beyond being given a five second sob story. Both in the case of humanoids and innocent animals minding their own business.

Fite me.

We know it deals with controlling a void sent, which has always been very off limits and deemed wrong. It doesn’t matter what drk itself focuses around. It doesn’t change the fact we literally slaughter things for the smallest reasons and do shitty things like bask in their blood. Sorry but that doesn’t sound like something a good person would do. Regardless of the intent.

Also, I thought we were afraid of talking to others in game because we can get banned, and yet you want open world pvp where you can... Get banned for griefing others?

An overhaul to pvp for those that want it? sure, open world pvp though? most definitely not

As someone who despises open world PvP, I don't see the harm in making a warmode toggle with extra experience gains from quests/fates while you have it toggled. It's totally optional and wouldn't impact PvE players at all. Esp. if they kept them on the same field so PvE players could watch PvPers duke it out.

You feel intent is meaningless, you might not care, but the devs do. The job lore is about protecting the weak and the how we must consider weight of murder even if it means doing what's right. It's a large part of the narrative.
It's a job about exorinv the grey area in justice.
It's not evil or grimdark like you're making it out to be, and it's far removed from the objective naughtiness of "let me be a cut throat bandit SQEX."

This here. Every time people want world pvp, it's simply so they can attack players who can't fight back.

Old mmo I once played actually added open world pvp. I was high level so I spent a lot of time in low level maps looking for pkers to kill. While the low levels would quickly start flying (can't go into combat when flying) when I was around because they thought I'd kill them, even though I was there to prevent them from being killed.

I believe it was removed in about a month or less because most of the playerbase hated being unable to actually play the game.

I'm actually OK with open world pvp being around, but only under the condition that it was opt-in.

So, bathing in the blood of the people you slaughter is fine and good? Laughing about their deaths is fine? Fray killing and hurting the people in the ishgard encampments is fine? You’re making a lot of excuses for this when it’s very clearly leaning towards a chaotic way of moralities. Especially when there’s literally an instance where we threaten the life of an unarmed guy, and then kill him when he calls guards to defend himself. Yeah no that ain’t good. It’s called the WoL thinking they’re above everyone. As for Reaper, we’re literally controlling a voidsent. That’s all we need to know. It doesn’t matter how it happens, it’s explicitly deemed that any relationship of conjuring a voidsent is taboo.

Open world PvP would make the maps emptier as they already are I guess because none want's to be slaughtered by some PvP freaks when they want to do some stuff on the maps.
