Is your class/job tied to your character's identity?

To be frank, I do had ideas of several characters in mind complete with their name, lore, background, & personalities. But the moment I learnt that FFXIV job system enables me to play -all- classes on one character, most of those ideas broke down to pieces. Normally in other MMO that restricts one class per character, I could apply such idea. In FFXIV on the other hand, it would mean I have to either ignore some classes that won’t match my character fantasy, or play everything and grind for everything… no.. I can’t possibly handle all of that…

So here I am… :o

I'll cap every job, but I only really identify my character with one or two, usually something complimentary. Whm/BLM, BRD/DNC. This character is AST/MCH(soon to be reaper).

I have played games where class = set in stone character identity, so my brain identifies jobs having more significance than just something I swap to. It's probably why I like to make alts. I am also completely OCD and have to cap everything on every character :) Maxing crafters and jobs for ShB round 5!

I recently renamed my main character Guts and I plan on focusing on DRK and RPR next expac...

I had i. Mind being a CNJ the moment I saw me as a miqo'te, but I spent a lot of time going from one guild to anothwr and getting information in order to be able to chose the job that suits better to the way Venkah is. I thought to become a botanist and I imagine her gardening her own plants and so on... But one day I found difficult finding the clothes I liked the most and it bothered me more than it should so I understood she is really a weaver... That was before finding you can cast glamour and dye your clothes... But that only remarks her wraver being : ))

Not really cause I lvl all the jobs and switch my main to another job bout once a year.

But the physical jobs like warrior or MCH or drg I am drawn to those themes the most.

Yes, my character has always been, and always will be, (your friend) a Dragoon. I started playing this game because it allowed me to take the DRG job so the job and character are inextricably intertwined. Since I started before HW was public knowledge, his story started out being tied to Gridania, with ties to Ishgard evolving as I played through the DRG class quests and HW.

He'll always been a Wood Wailer at heart and will return home to the Black Shroud, no matter how far afield his adventures take him.

Kinda? It’s more like there’s only a couple of jobs I was interested in and it’s expensive and time consuming to level another unless you’re a hoarder that keeps your armory full of gear.

Yep. This character is a dancer and I just don't feel right playing him as any other DoW or DoM.

Not really, it's actually a big reason I have trouble even thinking about trying RP. I can come up with certain themes for my character that involve specific jobs but then I can't settle on what my in character job would be. I like a couple of jobs too much so I'm constantly torn about it.

Primarily, I go between WHM, BRD, and MNK and have very different ideas for each of them.

Can't say that it is. While I enjoy the darker tone of the DRK, I was in more for the Eldritch Knight experience, not necessarily "using the evil within for good", most of my glamours are the most basic knight looking stuff I can find, not necessarily a dark knight.
