Is your class/job tied to your character's identity?

I'm curious if there are other players out there who tend to tie their class/job to their character's identity. I was mucking around with DRK at level 79 last night and it has been part of how I build my character up from the beginning. Embracing the darkness, blah blah blah. Yeah yeah careful not to cut myself on that edge and all that.

At the same time, I really love the simplicity of paladin. It was the first class I ever played in game, before I even knew what tanking was. I know it's just a game and I can play whatever class I damn well please, but I'm just curious if anyone else did this, where your class is so tightly wound with what your character is like that it seems odd and out of place to change it.

Please tell me I'm not the only one!

"We want the ability to earn past Feast rewards!" - HAHA no that's sacred.

Not exactly. My prior RP main fought with a sword and shield but I didn't really play her as a proper 'paladin' she just wore heavy armor and used sword/shield. My current RP main similarly uses dancer weapons to fight with, but isn't a proper Thavnairian dancer. She just learned to fight with chakram and other throwing weapons. In a sense, the fighting styles are important to my characters but they don't align with the actual in game jobs in my RP.

Personally, while I have favorite jobs I like to play, no. One of the huge key selling points of FFXIV over other major mmos. Can do what class/job I'd like without having to redo mountains of work. Job system and mmorpg, to me, is like rice in sushi. Just not going to be the same without it.

My character is a magic pumpkin possessing the body of the elderly Lala farmer that ate him (really).
I enjoy playing a lot of tanky and physical jobs, because even though I'm a min height Lala, to the pumpkin inside me this is a HUGE body and with it they feel like they can tackle the world!

Hmmmm yes? Well I Love FFXI Dancer

It can DPS, Heal and Tank ( when using Fan Dance) Most Fun I had in a Final fantasy game. It used to be AST but it changed so much from what it used to be ( AST main from 3.0 to 4.0) it's not the same anymore.

But FFXI Dancer is so much fun and I love the spanish AF Attire <3

Oh FFXIV DNC, yeah I hate it. Played it and it was such a bore

I started out as a lancer because I couldn't start the game as a Samurai. I played through Heavensward as a Dragoon and made the switch over to Samurai in Stormblood and have been using it as my default job every since. I do play other jobs and intend to level up all my jobs eventually but I keep myself grounded as a Samurai by switching back to it when I log out.

    I don’t role play but I think of her as a MCH/BTN/WVR.

I’ve levelled other jobs but would never identify her as say a Miner or a Paladin.

I am and will always be a Paladin class. While others stand there waiting my character rushes in like a real man and destroys everything in his way. I get a thrill being the only thing left standing as a boss pitifully beats against me while people in the party cry for me to die on purpose while I single handily destroy the boss.

Yes and no. My character has some themes established by prior RP, but because the game eventually doesn't really allow anyone to be meaningfully unique, the overall concept doesn't really stick.

It feels like it sometimes. I started out as a marauder/warrior and while I enjoy playing other classes and play with the idea of swapping mains, I can never bring myself to do main story content as anything other then a warrior. Love the class and it's hard to see my WoL as anything else in the formal story.
