I was tempted to make a Femroe alt (on deciding to not fantasia my character into one, after all) but I'm only now going through ShB and, man, I don't know how people can do this multiple times. Don't get me wrong, it's great! But it also takes a really long time (time that is quite literally money in this case..) to get through. Especially if you're leveling multiple jobs, too, which i've been slacking on
I didn't expect them to be wildly different. Not like SW:TOR where the planet stories and side quests for force / non-force starter planets and republic / imperial side are completely different. But there's probably still different dialogue, different NPC personalities etc.
I see my character as an extension/manifestation of myself rather than just someone I control and a miqo'te girl is what I best identify with. Midlander is the only other I could think of being. Changing races is not my thing though.
Ah, that's a pity. Guess I'll have to create alts for that at some point then. But it's not very high on my list of priorities.
As others have said, my alts are mainly for aesthetic and glamour purposes. Sometimes items and color combinations that don't work on my main are perfectly suited for an alt. It's kind of like playing with dolls except more cost effective and less clutter in my house. XD
Plus the different emotes definitely affect the kind of personality they can convey. There is also somewhat of an rp aspect to it, since each character has their own backstory and personality.
I don't feel obligated to level them, but will play on that character if I feel like it. I always try to complete the seasonal events on them though.
I have no plans to level anything more on my alts than their main job. I'm saving some jobs just for an alt and not capping it for my main, this way I can experience the story but on a character that story fits. For example, my hyur is a Disney character cosplay with summoner as their main job because I heard it gets dark and think it would be more fun to play through that story on that character than my main.
Alts have also saved me so much money on Fantasia based on my mood. I always go back to my main character feeling great and happy to think I didn't/won't change her.
On my main, I have three battle classes at 80 with three more planned to level to 80. I plan to level all battle classes to 30 just to get a feel for them, but some I have no interest in playing, so I'm talking my time. I am also pursuing omnicrafting, and omnigathering. Fishing is the last thing I plan on doing because it makes me giggle to think of my character retiring and fishing because she did literally everything else.
Tldr: Yes, I have alts, but I don't unlock everything on them.
i have a couple for playing on other data centers, and one on my home server so that i can raid with two statics next tier (because i make good decisions with my time), but i absolutely do not feel the need to do everything on them. that is reserved for my main.
I keep an alt on a European datacenter for when I want to visit with the people I played with when I worked nights. Gearing up multiple characters on a regular basis is a pain in the ass, though. As long as I'm geared enough for level 80 maps.
