To be fair to Tera or EA games like SWTOR, they're free to play and thus their cash shops /are/ how they generate revenue and thus you can't really compare them to a game that has a sub-only model. Likewise while I hate EA a good deal SWTOR's pricing model has gone from outrageously horrendous with actual critical game functions locked behind their sub wall to at least passable ever since new management took over the MMO. Management that unsurprisingly saw that bleeding everyone dry in a bid to reap ALL the money was far less effective than simply pushing people to spend $5 max to get the preferred status to skip most of the jank. Cosmetics are still expensive, their housing cosmetics especially, but it's where you'd expect it to be now for a F2P MMO.
I do agree with you about ESO and would add on that even against other P2P MMO's that FF14's cash shop really seems to be toeing the industry standard. A look at WoW's cash shop shows pretty similar prices for all-character unlock mounts and we all know the hell that is ESO's Crate system to get many of their cosmetics. Comparatively FF14's really isn't that bad at all.
