That's... a pretty apt observation.

Oh man, this guy's back.
WoW does this too at the end of expansions for the sake of exclusivity. I'd say that it must be an Activision thing, but...Bungie is free of them now, so they don't really have the luxury of being able to use that as an excuse. I love FF XIV partly because they don't really do that much. A title or 2 here and a mount there isn't a big deal, in my opinion.
Money gained from XIV goes into Square Enix's coffers for use in other projects. the only profits that XIV makes that goes 100% back into XIV is from Mogstation sales. Everything else can and is used for non-XIV projects. Tokyo RPG Factory and Studio Istolia (subsidiaries of Square Enix) incurred huge losses for Square Enix due to the failures of I Am Setusna, Lost Sphear, and Oniaki, and the unnamed game that didn't even make it off the ground from Studio Istolia. There was a net loss of about 592 million yen. You can bet that money from XIV is being used to offset those losses.
I don't like that content is spaced out in .x1 and .x5 patches sadly as I am too poor to afford the subscription for every month and I'm currently skipping rent to continue playing FF14 lol
