That's what server based content is like. Being on the server is the requirement to get the rewards. It's the same thing with FC bonuses. It doesn't matter if you don't contribute. If someone wants the xp buff everyone else gets to share it too.
I saw this coming when they announced restoration during fanfests. I like the idea of it being a collective event, but the fact it's a one-time thing is sad, considering there are people who will join the game later and those who simply doesn't have enough time to participate in server-wide activities (but could do a solo one in the own pace), meaning they miss the progress. I still wonder what they're going to do once the Restoration is completed. Will all the trading NPC along with currency go away, or will they stay there? How those who started to play later unlock this content and how will it work for them? So many questions.
I dont see why any of the NPC and rewards should go away - I'd expect the last stage of recipes to simply stay active, with some sort of story-twist like "Even though we're done with the restoration, we still need those materials for repairs if stuff breaks" or something similiar. Doesnt seemt o far fetched to me to still need new cabinets, even after everyone moved into their homes. They could also just claim that the items that are being delivered now will go towards restoring other parts of Ishgard (without us ever going to see that).
I fully expect the restoration to stick around as a leveling opprotunity for new players, even after we completed the housing area.
Even if not directly affected, I would make sure your shutters are working properly, because that is exactly what is going to happen. What's really sad is that >90% of those who have worked towards the effort all believe they're going to get to house there, when the percentage of those players who actually will is much, much less.
Oh I agree. I'm sure it will just be open to everyone and I expected that from the beginning. I don't see how SE could not do it that way. Just people are going to be seriously angry on either side no matter which way SE does it. Which is poor planning on SE's part. If I were them, I would have gone into this planning that the restoration is for the NPC housing and any player housing is instanced from that, so no matter who wants a house there they could get it. But I don't know if they can even do that with their systems. I'm not even going to bother fighting for a house there I'm sure. I have a small in goblet that I've had since WAY before there were any issues obtaining a house and while I could have upgraded size and changed location many times, I like my spot. I just feel for the people thinking they are doing all this work to unlock it and won't get a house there. The rage is going to be real for sure.
You mean it comes down to who has a faster connection to get online haha.
Why be disappointed in solid advice?
It's not up to a game to change to please you. It's up to you to decide if you can enjoy what the game offers.
If you're not enjoying a game for what it is, then find something else that suits you better instead of thinking the game will magically change and become what you want. Developers aren't going to risk alienating their satisfied paying customers by changing a formula that's been working successfully.
Oh wait, scratch that. WoW did just that and they ended up losing most of their player base. They had to resort to re-releasing the original game that players actually liked to entice some of those players back. Guess some developers are crazy enough to screw their business over.
By the way, you never had any meaningful choices that affected the world in WoW. You had quest completion. Either you did a quest and saw a change to the world, or you didn't. It was never a result of any choice you made as your character.
Did some digging and I just found out that the only competitive crafting season was only 8 days long in March and there hasnt been one since. It cant be that hard to reset and add additional seasons. Why was this not done? If something like league or wow arena seasons were this short and infrequent people would pitch a huge fit on it. Alot of missed opportunities within this event that really mess with the enjoyment of the system
Because it's not solid advice, and to clear something up just so we don't talk past each other when I say choices I don't mean red vs blue I really only meant my actions- if I do a quest the world responds, I love that, if you do a quest and the world temporarily responds, that's also amazing (like the Abomination quest in WoW), so even open world pvp killing of npcs is fine to me as it's all temporary, yet if you do a quest and it permanently changes my world and takes away my ability to do that.. I don't really love that. This is why I play a theme park mmo, because it supports my preferences, I buy a ticket I get to ride the rides I want.
I said I prefer the game changes to my choices (actions) rather than other people's, but I also noted in that very same post I thought it was good they had things for different players. Which is why I've said things like even though I've no intention to play or enjoy ultimate content I think it's a good thing it exists. Or while original Eureka was a big no thanks from me I didn't say content like that shouldn't exist. The game has to support more than one playstyle.
I'm disappointed in you because the advice was not solid, it was not sound, and its counter to both of the most massive popular mmos out there that clearly have a majority of changes based around -you- (your actions). As said by the lore team of FFXIV, -you- are the WoL. The majority of changes the world reflects are either pre-scheduled (not due to community influence) or are through your actions (MSQ, Beast tribe, etc), there are somethings in both games that are due to community action but they're few (ishgard). While I was clearly stating my preference for personal changes I went out of my way to say it's good that multiple play styles are respected, or that I think it's good they try new things (both points I've said many times in other posts on different topics as well, this game isn't just for one person but there is a general theme to how it presents itself), that even if they had tried to make Ishgard event personal there would have been weird consequences if they did personal development to a community housing area (possible actions that could work, just weird consequences sometimes like having it destroyed in your character's timeline but built up for the FC you joined).
Disappointed because I had said I think it's good different styles of content exist in the game, that I have a preference to this one style, that clearly my preference is supported by the game, and yet even though it's supported by the game and I didn't tell the other person they can't have theirs (just my preference the other way, and said they're not wrong for having their opinion)- yet still you told me to go play another game.
I had really thought you were more nuanced than that (from our previous conversations that I liked even though we didn't always agree)- and honestly didn't think you were rude before (you may meant no offense but I find telling people to go somewhere else as pretty rude, especially when what they like is already supported- like telling someone who likes chocolate to not eat the chocolate fudge they just bought.. what? No, I'm going to eat it- it's what I ordered), so I had higher expectations of you than to tell me to play another game even when the game that already well describes what I was looking for. Honestly thought you might have made a mistake which is why I called you out, thinking "no way they meant it as it came across, I know them they didn't mean what they said" and they'll bring something more nuanced response if I call it and perhaps misunderstood me the first time, but it seems like you're doubling down instead (even though the game absolutely caters to my desire, so the point is bad- and if we used the point to suggest the game needs to cater to multiple styles of players and not just mine then it's still a bad point because I already said that in my own post, clearly the game has to be played by more than just one person).
Also you add points about if I don't enjoy something I shouldn't play it, but I've never said I don't enjoy the game- as clearly the game already supports my preference. So cynically it feels like you're building a strawman or that you didn't fully understand me the first time, if giving you benefit of the doubt you're just talking in general that people shouldn't play what they don't enjoy (which makes sense, but clearly there is no reason to bring that up to me since it's not true nor have I suggested it). Vast majority of changes relate to what I'm doing (my preference, that is supported, in so much that I don't really want the game to -change-), and yet it's okay there exists some community events just to support different styles- just not my preference.
If anything changes to the game would be adding a lot more community events in particular desire to change the skew of personal/community responding events, as no change would be keeping the same majority personal and minority community (how it is now)- so if you're into telling people to go play other games if they want the game to change.. may want to read that to yourself. Although I think even that point isn't that great as everyone should be allowed feedback, so the devs can consider what direction to go, even if that means actually changing the game - the person I replied to has every right to hope there is more community changes, which is why I said they're not wrong for their desire and just it's not something I'd really want to see (even though the game has to cater to more than one style, and I said it's good SE tried this content). So maybe the majority does want more permanent style events and so maybe the game should change (or maybe the majority doesn't, seeing as Ishgard is complained about too, seems some like it some don't), but clearly that is not where the majority of action driven changes in this game come from currently (not from the community) so going that way would be change (and of course if the change isn't fun then you quit, but you're allowed to ask for changes and or not like changes- especially if you've invested already).
