Airships: Cost vs. Frequency vs. Usage

I could understand if these airship events were in place, but at the moment they don't, so that's why I asked the question to see what people thought.

I would understand the point of it being a balancing act with anima (ie: use anima if you're in a hurry, but if you run out, then pay for airship) but when you have already paid the gil, I just don't see a huge point in waiting. I could imagine the need for a higher cost in such instances, though. I'd rather a high cost quick ride than forcing dozens of people to see a load of spam from someone offering 15k to get them to X location via teleport because they're in a hurry. And I certainly have seen a lot of people in a hurry in this game. That's the reason I'm often in a hurry - because other people are waiting for me. >_*

The """extremely long""" delay we experience was a means to later seamlessly integrate the traveling scene, rather than reworking the whole airship travel thing again just for the sake of adding in the travel scene.

Yeah, the common occurrence on the forums here seems to be: Mention FFXI > get attacked because you shouldn't be playing FFXIV if you love FFXI so much.
I'm glad that didn't happen in this case, it makes me sad when I see ideas attacked out of hand. It reminds me of various times in human history, the dark ages, Salem witch trials, where things were attacked without any real evidence of them being "bad".

Meh..today I used the airship for the second time.
I used it once right after it was introduced, because, well, new stuff has to be tested xD
And today because I was really tired and lacked the motivation to ride from Gridania to Limsa.
I was shocked that I actually still had to wait after I paid such a large sum of money!

The reason why I don't use airships is not because of the waiting though, I rarely use anima either, but because 5000 Gil is way too much.
I think I'd use it more regulary if every flight cost was about 2000 Gil.

I use the airship maybe 3 times a day, I think the price is about right.

Instead of making what we have more expensive SE should make more gil sinks.

One way to do this would be to change the way teleportation works, anima could be abolished and would require a player to pay a cost to one crystal to teleport to another one, the farther the distance the more it would cost, it could end up being the biggest gil sink in the game.

Really? I think that 5k is way low, considering that a single R40 leve will net you 25~50k that's 5~10mins for a leve to pay for 5~10 airship rides. But I do a fair amnt of leves and mostly use my anima to go from city > camp to do leves > back to city > back to camp for leves, when I get on after work to try to speed along my leveling.
I guess if your 100% 50's or at least all that you want to do are, and your not doing leves and what have you this would change some.

I use them on a daily basis. The 5k price is ok I think, you get about the same amount of gil per lv40 leve, or even if you vend junk from inventory to the NPCs. The cutscenes do bother me a bit, same as they do in instanced raids but it's no big deal. Don't think they'll be removing them and making the travel 'instant port to the city' or whatever as the devs said that sometime in the future they plan to make Airship travel similar to boat travel, as in, you'll be able to 'do stuff' on board while travelling from place to place.

nah I suppose that exxageration is a lil too much then?
But on a more serious note, 5k for a 1 star rank30 leve, yep that's what I just cleared. So rank40 5star, it's been a bit but I'm thinking yeah it's higher. Next time I have a job ~40+5star I'll update my numbers.

This game would be better if you had to take the time to travel until you earned better and faster forms of travel. Ffxi did a good job of that.. you walked, then got a bird, then got an airship pass, then some teleport scrolls, then if you did the OP quests an even quicker mode of transportation. This instant traveling bs is ruining this game, its part of the reason everyone is sooo booored with the game and has all their jobs maxed and want more content, blah blah blah! Airship should have a mandatory cutscene.. and a waiting time for it to come... as it already does. No more of this must have now mentality! If you want faster travel fine... you just have to earn it, gives you more to do in game as well :).

anytime i need to go to the other citys i use it 5000gil is cheaper than 6 anima.

Don't worry you can use the airship less when two different home points come into play.
