Incentive doesn't necessarily have to mean out of match rewards such as Wolf Marks and glams. It can just mean an enjoyable experience during the game.
There's plenty of games built on the premise that a week/a month from now everything you do is gonna be reset to 0 and you have to start over again but the gameplay is good enough that people keep playing. Like Path of Exile or Rust.
Imagine if PVP was good enough that people would gladly go into it and we didn't just do it for the glams and then never touched it until a new season began.
It's not even that rewards are exclusive to PVP, it's that they're time-limited. So you can "get good" but you're not gonna get good in the span of a season, so if there's something you really want and you're just starting out, tough luck, you're gonna miss out. Even the Ishgard construction effort is eventually going to end, but if you got the title one season and the little minions, there's no need to go back and keep working on it because it's still available for whoever else wants to try and improve their crafting and shoot for the high score.
I'll never understand why PVP'ers freak out like they don't want anyone else to have their mounts, even if it were done exclusively through PVP or even just Feast. The top 10 get a weapon of their choice. But yet, I can do four seasons at bronze rank and get the exact same weapon and NOBODY LOSES THEIR MINDS.
One thing that would be nice would be a new map, It's been so long now and needs something fresh. I also think that they've shifted a lot of their developers / work onto "brand new" content like that "ranch" thing that's coming in the future, losing deep dungeon and other things in sacrifice has taken a lot away from the smaller activities.
Just give it up already... you're not getting your hellhound mount move on dude...
I took a year off to study. Not my fault the rewards system is a hot steaming pile of garbage. /shrug. I'd PVP even if there weren't rewards involved. It's a good way to practice and improve. But yeah, let's all talk about how I made a request years ago (and just commenting on an observation recently) and it still makes people around here go REEEEEE.
It's. just. a. game.
