Meanwhile, here in Duty Fantasy XIV, your best recourse for leveling the up to 16 other jobs is to spam the Duty Roulettes again and again and again and again and again and again...
(Another is that each alt comes with its own set of bags and bank space allowing you to spread your guff across multiple characters... Meanwhile, with so many jobs these days in XIV my armoury chest is stuffed to the brim with gear...)

It did not take weeks to level up to high level outside of Classic and TBC (After that the compounding EXP requirement reductions for previous expansion content started to really make a difference)
At which point, it becomes better to not take crafting professions and instead take gathering professions to get the mats and sell them for gold to buy the crafted items (Of which, only a handful were actually worth having given WoW's terrible history with crafted items)Quote:

Outside the one expansion where there was statistical benefits to having actual crafting professions (However, this was I believe Cataclysm, where as mentioned, leveling was easy and fast so as to be able to level up a material gatherer alt) -

In general I'm wary of choices for the sake of choices, but having several playflow variants or a few other significant changes per job can be worth their development costs insofar as they increase the breadth of attraction of jobs that might otherwise be overlooked.
Anything that increases the product of breadth and depth of attraction to players more than it increases the development costs necessary, without decreasing overall cohesion, will likely be good design. -

Having to be at the dungeon's entrance in order to queue up for it. It's anathema to a game where Duty Finder exists, as there is no way in hells that people would willingly downgrade back to that style of accessing content.
I know it doesn't come from any one particular MMO, but it's an inconvenience I miss. I seem to recall a time when I met some good people while waiting to queue up for Sastasha (back in 2.0 beta) and I kind of miss that sort of "people gathered around here with a purpose" feeling. -

I think one of the worst things to me at least to come out of WoW lately, of a long list of them, is mandatory speed run grinding.
To me, doing a dungeon is about the experience and journey- doing it quickly and efficiency is always great. But, the moment you put a timer requirement on something you create a lot of toxicity around both having the ideal gear/specs/parse to clear it, and around failing to do so in time. Because it's required to gear for raiding it is packed with players that do not want to be doing it- and there's really no better way to make a toxic environment than to fill something with people that hate doing it, who have been doing it daily for years.
At one point, dungeons were my favourite part of WoW- now I consider them no different from grinding WQs/dailies which are the worst part of the game.
I think the other thing that'd break FFXIV would be the 'do only one thing well, ignore everything else' mindset most MMOs have. Generally it's a 'raid or die' mentality that puts all focus into making good raids, at the cost of everything else.
In WoW, all the quality is in raiding, everything else is used to hinder you and waste your time. Rather than going from last raid to this raid- you have to do constant dailies and weeklies and timed solo runs to build up your cloak, and constant corruption and trinket farming in M+ hoping for the right RNG in the same dungeon, over and over, that drops the item you need. I generally feel like when I log on, my activities for the day are chosen for me, and by the time I'm done I don't feel like doing anything else since I'm already bored. I'm not even through H Nyalotha and despite the raid being decent, all the other stuff has soured me to the point where it's harder and harder to justify doing all the other intentionally grindy, boring content just to do it.
FFXIV- I look forward to story additions, there's mechanics in dungeons/eikons/raids that make them interesting to me, crafting is an entire class with abilities and events. FFXIV may not be the best at everything- but it feels to me like they've made the most complete overall world that takes into account that MMOs can appeal to players that aren't die hard raiders. -
