If the FFXIV MSQ destroyed your city...

Going by my own headcanons for my character, Crimson never really had anywhere that he was strictly "from" since his parents were travelers. Probably the closest place to what he'd consider "home", aside from the residencies he sometimes stops by at the Goblet and Shirogane, would be Ishgard since he was practically accepted as family by House Fortemps, even when the rest of Eorzea seemed to turn against him. Ishgard was already in shambles at that point, and mostly still is, but we have the Ishgard Restoration going now so I find it difficult to believe they would give us that opportunity only to wreck the place again.

I think I'd begrudgingly play even if they destroyed Ul'dah, which has been my homepoint ever since I started playing. If a city were destroyed (and I'm inclined to think that one of the three older states would be more likely than say, Kugane) and then an option to help rebuild became available, that'd be an easier pill to swallow. You'd lose out on the permanent sense of loss, but you'd gain the experience of rebuilding (which could be an argument for leaving a city state in ruins since we've already got Doma and Ishgard Restorations).

I was still upset about Auberdine honestly, and that's as a Horde main. By the time they razed the rest of it I was already halfway out the door anyway.

But I find I'm still far more upset about the individual NPC's we've lost in FFXIV than I am about any combination of causalities and catastrophes on Azeroth. They just hit harder.

I think maybe Blizzard thought there wouldn't be such a reaction to axing a less popular and out of the way city, but all it did was devastate their more involved and long-term players. I trust SE would realize there would be a far more visceral reaction here considering how much more time they put into getting players invested in the world.

Something pretty cathartic though is the opposite of city-wide destruction - FFXIV has offered (at least two that I'm aware of?) opportunities for players to help rebuild places that were destroyed or damaged. The attention to aftermath and closure in this game is really... I appreciate it.

But I guess to answer the main topic: Yes, I'd be devastated if Ishgard crumbled. Fortunately it doesn't seem like that's on the table.

I do hope that they do in fact destroy all ARR town maps, because thats the best way for a developer to show, that they care for they game to improve it, even if this means to destroy old content.
The destruction of old content is for MMOs the only way to create out of the old things something new, or to rework it into something better.

Just see it as a metamorphosis from an old ugly worm into a beautiful new young butterfly.

Thats what Id like too see happening with all ugly old ARR towns n maps, that SE destroys them to morph them into new more beatiful versions that are on same technical standards as all other maps n places from Heavensward on bein in full 3d maps, that are much bigger than the ARR maps and where you can fly.

Maybe not now, but definetely when FF14 does the jump over to PS5/XBS ands stops the support for PS4, then I definetely want to see some heavy graphical improvents in the whole game, especially in the ARR stuff locations ect.

I mean, the West Shroud's been gone for years...

For that matter, Ul'dah has come the closest to being taken out; got to spend all of 2.55 severely unwelcome and with it's leadership apparently in chaos. Wasn't a good feeling.

Not exactly. The Vale of Eternal Blossoms was destroyed for every one who played through Mists after Garrosh blew it up, regardless of what part of the storyline you are on ... players no longer get to see the wonder of the area.

They did not, however, totally and entirely destroy Darnassus ... as a Night Elf, it is still the place you start out, in all its pristine beauty. There were no consequences.

Double standard. Definitely.

Someone will have to check my Everquest lore, but I am pretty sure they actually did this with one of their cities. It wasn't a starting city or anything, it was Firiona Vie which housed some spell vendors and such for High Elves. If memory serves, there was a server wide event or something where some servers succeeded and Firiona Vie was saved and some servers failed and it was destroyed, overrun with monsters. The vendors there after were housed in some ruins in the same zone but off in a corner. I don't remember all of the finer details but I recall there being some servers where Firiona was still a city and some where it was not.

I don't mind if Limsa gets destroyed. They are the ones provoking the Kobolds, and start crying like little bitches when those respond. For Gridania, i'll just save Fufucha Fucha. Everyone else can die. And for Ul'dah, i only care about Nanamo Ul Namo

Well, it'd really depend on how it was handled...

If it was handled well, I might be able to... tolerate it. I wouldn't like the destruction of Gridania (or, god forbid, Ishgard), but if it actually mattered to the story and was handled well, I could maybe tolerate it. If they didn't refund me the stuff in my house though, i'd be very, VERY, ticked off, and potentially take a hiatus due to annoyance.

Going off headcanon, my girl would be in an even worse mental state than she is already if Gridania, where she started her journey and lives, or Ishgard, were destroyed.
