N.American Ifrit Lag Makes it Unplayable

It's funny i was calling nails on ventrillo, and my roommate shouts across the apt "no its not up yet" and a full 5 seconds later he goes "oh wait..."

I could see it on my screen 5 seconds before he could, he said the nail was practically down when he got over to it.... same isp relatively same pc set up (benchmark within 100 of each other)

To add on top of that, I also have seen two eruptions popping at the same time on me due to lag. I also experienced the same with the nails when someone is calling it and still see them appear seconds after. And last but not the least, when I do the moggle fight, the first one is half dead when it finally pops on my screen with the others characters. Not saying that it is impossible to play because it is but it is extremely annoying not to see the things on the screen that are already happening. I'm from Europe too...

lag is just an excuse. my whole ls is in NA and we never lose. just cause it looks like you cleared cracks doesn't mean you did. if you are off them whiten the second they pop you'll be good.

edit: lag can happen sometimes, ive been clear of cracks before other players and still got hit. its pretty rare though. if its unplayable for you then i say its user error.

Exactly, watch what he does and you will know before hand what ability he will do, there are obvious tells.
If you see he is gonna spawn cracks, don't cast, WS, ect... Just chill and get ready to run.

people think its the actual explosion you gotta clear, its the cracks the second they pop. Also when running back you can run back to your spot before the cracks have fully cleared the field. good for cnj to know so they can get back to healing asap.(timing on this takes some practice though)

i like the people dismissing the lag problem

i've seen ppl die to ifrit's dash then their dead body slide to the safe spot, so tell me what is to be blamed for that one?

i've seen eruptions spawn in empty space and blow up on ppl who have no cracks below them, any input for that one?

not to say ifrit is unbeatable with lag, its doable - but when you're expected to react to events that do not display properly its quite annoying.

tip for ppl with lag issues: turn your graphics down, you'll get better response.

OP's situation in Ifrit happened to my group's runs the other night.

They random eruptions in the middle and on the tank made it really difficult to complete.

If you see someone get hit by an eruption and then slide across the screen dead...that means they are moving but the server is not updating their position. That is a lag issue, could be the ISP...could be the server...could be the player downloading 847 thins at once...no group will own up to it regardless. The training of service reps is automatically to blame another source for the problem or they get fired. Every service provided for the internet by every provider (weather a server or an ISP) is infallable in their eyes.

My advice to players having trouble is:

1) Try doing this fight at non-peak times.
2) Clear you cache and shut down all programs that start automatically when you turn on your PC (ex. Steam ).
3) Do a virus scan.
4) Update any drivers associated with running FFXIV.

Beyond that, if you are going to get hit by eruption, get better at healing and equip healing oriented things like Cure and Second Wind. I also found Invigorate was a nice deal for building TP for mage classes who wanna conserve MP and just use 1 Cure and Second Wind. Since I also have problems with this fight and lagging I also use Stoneskin for myself only and stay away from using it for the tank. I know for our runs we separate our group so the healers never stand together but the DD do so we can mass heal them with Curaga if needed. Make sure people have raise equipped for the fight if they have it and hope you don't get a double pop eruption. Timing things is also good plan of action...after every jump he pretty much either attacks once and uses a TP move or uses a TP move so anticipate and react accordingly...you have 30 mins to do the fight, there is no rush, his regen is not that good. Another quick note...avoid raising unless he jumps...seen far too many people get caught flat footed raising...a byproduct of Chainspell. Hope this helped, GL :).

About the random spanws, 90% of the time it occurs when a player is dead. I am not sure why this is the case but it is (based on my observation.) From what I can gather, this may have something to do with the emnity mechanics and a dead body can cause random eruptions or "hax crax." In fact, I can't ever recall this happening when someone isn't dead.

And yes, like I said earlier, lag is an issue and shouldn't be - but it is. You can work around it. I also want to point out that someone mentioned the "corpse slide" - this is the truefire way of telling if someone did or did not die from lag. At the same time, even with lag you can do this fight enough to be able to counteract it via experience.

My best advice to players who are certain that the only limitation that is stopping them from victory is lag is this: get on mumble or skype or whatever else you have. This will almost always solve the problem. We have some LS members who are in the Middle East and had some struggles in their first attempt. We all got on a call and called out when to nuke and when to move and guess what? Easy wins. Just a suggestion.

Again, yes, it is a problem. No, it shouldn't be. Yes, you can counteract it.

Whats this? I can run back onto the crack and have the explosions not damage me because the server still thinks I'm outside of the explosions? HOW IS THIS NOT LAG.
