Yeah this is the main problem with it, why would anyone join a lootmaster PF if only the last two spots are open? No one is likely going to wait around for their mount. I don’t see how being in PF for a few more minutes entitles someone to a mount

Just don't join them if you have a problem with it. Makes me laugh when its "mount in order parties" that are missing the last person and never fill. The problem isn't really with the lootmaster setting, it's trusting that all 8 people are going to stay the entire time to get up to 8 mounts (which with the bad drop rates could take a bunch of hours) and the parties which are just trap loot and scoot parties (leader invites a bunch of their friends that already have the mount, get theirs first then half the party leaves). Some people join them because they don't care about mount/already have or just want totems/weapons/crafting item.
I've joined such parties when I wasnt intrested in the mount because I already had it - I completed my Zurvan-weapon collection that way, Lootmaster didnt bother me. Someone else here stated that they're joining those parties to get a better shot at crafting mats that mount-farmers arent as intrested in.
Its also my understanding that there is this concept of re-filling LM-parties - as in: if someone gets their mount and leaves a few runs later, they'll re-fill the spot and everyone moves up the ladder. This way you are theory guranteed to get your mount at somepoint if you stay long enough - different from a free-to-roll-party where you most likely will always roll against 6-7 other people because if you re-fill someone who left, you're back at square one.
If you and I dont wanna join those parties, thats fine - otherwise might have reasons to do so and that should be their freedom.
Drop rate has to be higher than the chance to win the roll, so that it's worth for an 8th man to join. And you need a really short refill time/short kills, so that 8 drops are possible in a humanily time.
Then statistically You'd get a drop sooner (regardless if people leave after drop) than in a normal farm group where , i.e. 100% after 8 drops.
In a normal farm group this is only the case if no one left (so, like never) and if always the winner left you'd still have >30% chance to not have won the bird.
The key is to keep the group rolling, which is only possible when above condition applies.
Depends on the content.
If its an 8 man raid I can see lootmaster being useful
In regards to mount farms on EX trials its generally a scam by the 1-2 people that started the PF to get others to farm a mount for them.
I'll never join a postmaster pug.
Did at one point get a load of flak from one guy on my server. He had a sus farm party up on lootmaster 7/8 needed a tank.
I created my own sus party as just a tank normal loot rules. And ended up pulling 4 of the people that were in his party into mine and he said I should have just joined his as I was the tank he needed and giving me crap cos I broke his party
Fun times
I won my Shiva pony with Lootmaster set and every single one of us stayed until the last person eventually got theirs. However I've also been a part of lootmaster parties that dissolve after the first mount is won, or after four tries because they can't be assed to care. Just use discretion and if all you see are Lootmaster parties, perhaps consider making your own.
The problem is not the LM system. Having players abusing the LM system doesn't mean that it's bad.
Lootmaster is always either a scam or unnecessary in pug situations. If everyone stays until everyone gets what they came for then lootmaster isn't needed. If all people don't stay until the end, then the last people to join will have joined and contributed with a 0% chance of loot. Lootmaster parties who refill after every loot drop don't last infinitely so there will always be someone who gets no loot before it disbands. Need Before Greed loot method ensures no one is guaranteed to loot nothing.
It shouldn't be abolished though, because statics may find it useful when testing new people or running with replacements. I just hope people are aware that it's not the fairest loot method when in a full pick-up-group.
I love "lootmaster" partys ... "stay till all get loot i wont leave early"
Dogs are 2% (1 in 50) lets asume all need one (times 8) this would require around 400 kills ... lets asume 10 min a kill. 4000min thats around 60h.
If you join one of those partys as number 2-3 dont expect anything.
Ps even if its not 2% and you kill faster ... the time is still simply to long for "i stay for all"
