Live to win, til you die.
its not just FF forums tho, its WOW and even SWTOR that has only been out a few days, have ppl that post on the forums how rubbish a game is, or how the have been robbed an want a refund. i can only guess a fanboy of one game buys another purely to troll the forums and put down a game that is not the one they play. (i'm guessing fanboys, the conspiracy-ist in me wonders if its the company's them selfs putting down the opposition)
I play because I enjoy the game over, I have some good in game friends, not to mention as it grows and improves, I will be a part of it.
there is a huge difference in having a negative opinion about something in game, and being a troll.
I too played FFXI, for 7 years infact, was in FFXIV Alpha/Beta, and release, played for 30 days and stopped, because I felt it was not ready for me yet. I waited all the way till 1.8 and I started to see some promise, so I started playing off and on again. Now that 1.20 is out and 1.21 is well on its way, the game is starting to get to that "I want to play" point.
I have kept playing up until now because I kept hoping that the next patch would finally give me that FF feeling and bring enough content that would keep me interested and enjoying my time in game for a long time. I also waited patiently for each to patch to bring the many promised changes I had been hoping for - some arrived, others I am still waiting for. Some of changes have been very nice, others have let me down badly, especially the partially replaced crafting system and the incredibly boring and outdated levequests , as well as the lack of any changes to the linkshell system.
All of my friends have already quit, and most of my linkshell is gone too. I want this game to succeed and I do plan to come back after more changes have been made. While it is still free to play, then I am happy to log on once in a while and craft a bit or check out any new changes or holiday activities. I am not spending enough time in game anymore to merit paying for it, however, so although I do like parts of FFXIV, I'll be gone once the billing starts.
