Required Class/Rank failed - Can we have Optimal Rank and Favoured Class back?

old system is better for inventory space and aesthetics, but horrible for economy
new system is good for economy, but you have to to carry more pieces if you do multiple crafts and is more restrictive

What "rendered moot the existence of vast majority of the equipments" wasn't the optimal system per se, but the overall useleness of stats. Using a higher level weapon would clealy reduce your attack power on the stat screen, but have a far less noticeable effect on your actual damage.

With this whole issue already fixed, I, too, don't see any major reason to require level even on regular, craftable gear. People wouldn't use a R50 weapon a R1 because the R1 weapon would deal three times the damage.

Optimal system is better overral because the economy functioned with Optimal system already regardless, and materia is a pretty big stimulus package on its own, without burdening people with restrictions. The materia and durability systems also encourages you to wear gear within your level range because deterioration/spiritbond rate does (or should) relate to optimal level.

Artificial restrictions make no sense unless you're trying to annoy everyone, then they do make sense.

As much as I agree with you, you're fighting a losing battle here. Most people can't handle the freedom of the optimal system. Also they get easily butthurt over level 1s wearing their uber phat lootz, it makes them feel less special.

So a level 50 conjurer should be able to wear the same gear as a level 50 gladiator?

I've had a hard time trying to re-gear myself. I'm just about half-done only, still a lot of stuff to change/replace/adjust. But I am totally fine with that.
I think requirement to wear new equipment just sounds reasonable. Before, I could wear rank 30~ gear on my rank 20~ craft classes and still do fine because I got stats that were scaled down GENEROUSLY. Now it's not generous, but it makes sense and it's not too hard to deal with.

Also, like Alkoun pointed out, level 50 CNJ being able to wear same heavy armor as level 50 GLA would be ridiculous and doesn't make sense.

I like how (almost) everyone against the optimal level system only consider the extreme situations; Like I said, with the stats now working properly, no level 50 conjurer will be wearing gladiator gear for any reason besides town aesthesics, simply because it will suck.

Let's use some different examples, shall we?

- A level 35 GLA could upgrade his level 30 weapon for a level 37. heck, he could even max the spiritbond for that weapon and, as he reaches level 37, materialize it and meld it with another L37 weapon as he reach the proper level.

Then, he reaches level 38 and thinks "hum..I'm a bit bored, gonna rank up my PUG now" and switches to his L32 PUG. But *gasp* the only gear he has with him right now are L35sh....no problem, it's just a bit weaker for the time being.

A bit ahead, he finds a mining node. Being a R40 MIN, he switches classes and goes for a quick mining session. However, he failed to notice an aggressive monster, who attacks him...but he didn't have all his gear stripped due to changing classes, it just became less effective, but still effective enough to soak up some damage and allow him to run away.

And he did all that without stressing over his inventory with 3 entirely different gear sets just to do such trivial activites! This, was / is the beauty of the optimal level system. I know I will miss those times.

Yes but without the same benefits. The gladiator gear should do very little for the Conjurer. Something cross-class like that, and not even of similar Disciple should render it mostly useless for them.

I'm not against the old "Optimal rank" system. I'm just saying I am willing to adapt to the new system and that it's not too big of a deal to abide by it.
