I agree. Rework "Astral Flow" so its on say a 15 min timer and have it summon the "real" primal for a massive attack. Or make their Limit Break summon the "real" primal version of whatever primal they have out at the time.

Could you imagine how awful that would be? Like, one of those raid wipes where the team drops RIGHT when everyone blows their long CD's. Then everyone takes a break waiting for them to come back up before the next pull?
Now do it with a 15 minute cooldown. Oh god no.
There is nothing about that users post that is specifically asking for something "overpowered" (as you put it) All they are asking for are temporary summons that do their signature attacks only, instead of a permanent pet. Just like Dreadwyrm Trance/Deathflare in that regard which is an "overpowered" AoE nuke! So the thing you are complaining so much about is already implemented via DT/Deathflare....
That would be a rather cool way of implementing it, however I'm not sure a full Primal could still be summoned. At least in certain situations, like in a dungeon such as Dzemael Darkhold, Summoning a full scale Levi or Bismarck would cause issues in there! lol. But perhaps a scaled down version of these Primals could be summoned for use via Magicite. That would be cool!
Yeah the I think its abundantly clear the Egi need a total visual overhaul. The current models are very rushed and would only have taken that devs about one week to produce. More polish is needed at least to bring Garuda/Titan to the same level as Ifrit (which they clearly spent the most time on).
What I immediately think of when people talk about a summoner rework and absurdly long cds

Not all SMN discussions boil down to this though. No matter who I talk to, whether it be friends in real life, friends online, members of my FC/LS's, or people on these forums. As soon as SMN is brought up, everyone instantly agrees that the Egi are sub par and need a re-design/size increase. Asking SE to address these issues is by no means a big ask or unreasonable.
An Egi redesign and size increase can easily be implemented. People should not be defending three models that would have took even an average 3D artist about a week to make. Literally no strenuous work was put into the visuals of the Egi. Look at Titan's "oven mitts" or Garuda's broken spine and double pelvis! This is a game that is bringing SE a lot of revenue, they could easily commission a freelance artist to remodel the Egi for them as a one time job if their staff really are that pressed for time.
I should stress there is nothing wrong with the concept behind the Egi's appearance. They are a portion of the Primal (a physical manifestation of a portion of their Aether) and therefore have an appearance that is a hybrid of the Primals design and an Elemental Sprite. Which is cool, I get it. But the execution and technical prowess of the actual models is sub par. They look like place holders rather than finished models for a premium service game. Apart from Ifrit, his model is decent considering.
You're not listening very well.
The point is that the summons in a 14 year old game with PS2 graphics look and feel infinitely more badass than they do in a modern game. Egis are just plain lame.
The playstyle is lame because "hey, i'm a summoner. It's my job to destroy our enemies by commanding crazy intense awesome primal beings to crush them! Oh look, it's an enemy! Excuse me while i open this book that has shapes in it or something and cast a bunch of DOTs while this lame floating wind thing just kinda chills on the sidelines".
In otherwords, Summoner DPS is not focused on the summons; it's focused on nonsensical geometry magic that somehow translates into poison spells.
I really love the new changes to Summoner. I just hope they make some changes to way the egi's look. Maybe... they will add a Leviathan or Shiva egi? =D
I don't think SMN necessarily needs a total rework. I think if the devs simply redesigned the Egi's aesthetics and then for SMN's lvl 70 abilities give a focus to the Egi, then SMN would be in a pretty good place on the whole. It's clear the crux of the SMN debates are the Egi. Fix that, then you fix the issue. Hopefully the devs are wise enough to see this new Egi glamour system as an opportunity to address that issue.
