They're both pretty awful. Look good on paper, provide little practical benefit.

As others have said, this is another reason why it's important to examine what AST provides in context of what the other healers provide.

I would trade CO out for Assize in an instant. Or Tetragrammaton for that matter, if we want to compare capstones.

CU I would trade for a Klondike Bar...but I would settle for Asylum, which is far more useful, despite its lower potency, and far less situational.

CU is very bad. long cooldown for a stun and 5 second extension on a buff which its best use is with self refresh ability.

I would also trade Celestial Opp for Assize in an instant - and what's even more sad is the fact Assize is a WHM's level 56 ability vs. the far inferior Celestial Opp at 60.

An ast has a severe lack of oh shit buttons.

It's the worst class in the game.

I am not a hater for saying this. I actually LOVE the class. It's just this borders on being a fact, even the game developers are acknowledging that it has problems and is lacking against the other healers. There is literally no reason to bring one over a white mage or scholar other than "I like to play this".

People get so bent out of shape and needlessly defensive when it comes to topics about class balance...geesh.

I think "ast is bad" is probably alot easier than saying "ast is viable, but not as good as a whm or sch, therefore bringing one lowers our chances of winning." Just saying.

too much RNG, imagine getting no EWER cards, and going OOM, then the next round getting plenty. I think the RNG for the card system was a bad idea. RNG = luck, granted there is a lot of RNG out there, but no class has as much as the AST. there are a lot of good suggestions out there how to revamp the card system, but still leaves the RNG of it. I would just like to suggest a way to get rid of RNG, and allow AST to choose which card to use, and have a CD for every card type, so you wont be able to get two in a row. Having the ability to pick and choose which card to use, would just make us more efficient, imagine being able to use Bole when tank is about to take heavy hits, it actually becomes useful, and so forth with the rest of the cards.

To answer the OP's question, yes they can heal, but no they aren't as efficient as the other two healing classes.

The RNG is thematic with the job, though. If tarot readers picked the cards themselves, it wouldn't be much of a fortune, would it?

Fun to troll your friends, but not for a mmo class. I hope they come up with something more creative to fix the rng problem than just removing the rng.

While that is true, somwhere in the story our Astrologian trainer implies she actually has some power over it.

She saids something along the lines of "if you weren't x i would have given you a bad reading a long time ago"

That line always confused me with the current system.
