Once again, Fernehalwes demonstrates just how godlike he is.
Wow, that was a nice behind-the-scenes explanation, Fernehalwes, really appreciated it, as is your and your mates' work as localizers (and I'm not referring to your evil counterpart).
One more day and I'll start to devour all the story-related contents of 1.19.
Also, I'm glad to hear it was you voidsents of the english loc team who came up with the name Maidenmere: that lake is one of my favourite locations in Eorzea, as I illustrated in my last Journal entry, because, besides the nice atmosphere, on the topmost corner there's this lonely pine that I feel very close to, for the lone wolf-type of adventurer/explorer that I often am. Here it is:

Ferne, can you ask the lore-masters, for future patches, to have some contents for that little pine in Maidenmere? Can you also name it “Great Pine Onizuka” or “Pine Cloudio”? Just kidding. :D (Actually, I'm not.)
i like Maelstrom, it makes me think the sea is angry and needs to be respected. i don't get that same feeling with black vortex. i hope they leave it as it is
All i can say is: I<3 Ferne posts!
IMo Ferne posts could be twice as big since they always bring priceless info! @_@
And talking about priceless...since LOC forum also kind of became the lorelovers' campfire, can i ask a quickie somewhat off-topic questing regarding companies page update?
Seeing that gridanian poster has some bending and stick marks, which means that it's meant to be an old poster, and that the woman there has some "obvious" differences from Kan-E-Senna (horns style, brest size, adult body, etc. Actually the only simiar aspects are hairstyle and skin color, which might actually means heritage) i'd like to ask who is her...is she from previous gridanian grand companiy, somehow relative to Kan-E-Senna or something that is worth knowing? ^^
+1 to Ferne, again!
I always thought the FFXIV 不滅隊's namesake were the Immortals in FFXI: ToAU, also named 不滅隊 (and themselves likely inspired from the Persian Immortals). I'm surprised no one mentioned it here. Even their leader, Raubahn, has the same name in both games, leaving me to hope FFXIV will introduce blue mages in the story at some point.
Now why they are translated differently in the respective games' English versions is another question, though this kind of inconsistency happens often throughout the series...
Fernehalwes, you are awesome. :D I love reading about the process of localisation and it's really obvious that the l10n team working on FFXIV really cares about the game and its lore. (And, for what it's worth, the Maelstrom is an awesome name~ I'd giggle a lot if the 'ebon eddy elite' actually made an in-game appearance. >_> I'm imagining, like, a bunch of kids like XI's Star Onion Brigade. =P)
Ya i read it. The problem was that it was posted in a common topic from general discussion i believe.
