Hi OP, just buy lots and lots of fine sands before they can no longer be purchased. lots and lots of them. and possibly place them all on a mule on a second account with a second computer, because everyone should be able to do that, with our abundance of pc's and accounts.

doesnt matter im not fine with it because i stocked up, im fine with it because i always found it unfair to those who gathered fine sand and synthed it and couldnt sell it for even a marginal profit, now it opens uo another market venue. i have always had a large stockpile of fine sand, specifically so i wouldnt have to run back to uldah incase i needed some, i could just hop to mule set retainer and buy it from myself

3.) you cant 'buy' from your own retainers, you buy from 'other peoples' retainers. Its crazy risky to set up a mule retainer and buy from it too, I have gotten many lighting shards from that error.

You know, on topic here, it seems several alchemy things are vanishing. New recipes won't involve several glues and things like horns, wings, scales, etc aren't going to be dropping from mobs anymore or being used in new synths? What is this exactly? All the materials for glues as well as their uses are leaving. And the whole dye thing on top of that. And the fine sand...what are they doing to my class? =(

Actually I do, when I skill up Goldsmithing. I am getting ready to skill up Culinarian and will have more sea sand then the ocean floor might as well save it.
I said I buy them from my mules retainer not my own idiot. And Its not risky when you over price it significantly. (I usually list them for 1K each, no one is going to pay that.)
Your just as much of a smart ass as we are "Mrs. Pot".

In short:
(i) stock up on fine sand before the update if you have the space available.
(ii) save using fine sand after the update on desynthing lightning crystals to shards if anything - because it looks like the lightning shards will be in demand.
(iii) be prepared to fish a lot.
A ls mate was worrying about this yesterday. I'm not particularly concerned as I like to do my own fishing and alchemy desynths, and I don't worry about crystal selling/buying. IMHO the update makes it more difficult to desynth to shards in great quantities, but it doesn't prevent it, so the end result will probably be higher shard cost, which should also encourage people to fish and desynth their own, rather than relying on buying due to the likely increased prices.
It doesn't stop people buying shards if they want to, but it does mean that players who farm their own through fishing and desynthing will have a mat cost and profit margin advantage over the players who don't.
I don't see a problem with it.

P.S. Additionally the extra effort needed to either obtain fine sand, or fish up the specific fish species will likely lead to a greater drain on RMT resources, thereby possibly making the overall process less appealing to them.
