I want to start the game if it ever releases on PS3.
I'm really hoping they make at least a couple of fresh servers once the game's sorted out and the PS3 version's launched. That way I could start over with some friends without the messed up economies of the current servers, and there'd be a lot of other people doing the same.
But then I reckon they'd allow server transfers anyway so that might be redundant.
you also have to remember it would not only be the people still playing now that would quit. it would also be those that had a class or 2 at cap that decided to take breaks until more content that was released not returning as well. how many of the people that are on breaks now of the few hundred k worth of copies would it push to stay away from the game permanently.
I can definitely see that for a no-name small time dev., but personally I think SE still has a brand name to protect, and that more than anything else is the reason they won't go for a wipe.
also, I don't know where you pulled F2P out of, but I certainly haven't heard anything about the game going perma F2P
If they wanted to do that, they should have shut the servers down, and not bothered with wasting time putting out releases for us to play. They could have made all the drastic changes they wanted that way, and they'd get them all done quicker.
But, with the way they've gone, they couldn't possibly chop everyone's character down to bits. They'd instantly lose the player base they've been attempting to preserve all this time.
Not happening.
A full reset would be the final nail for XIV.
If it up too me i would hit the reset to many people have hit 50 when the game was easy mode, to many people have so much gil due to the leves giving you a lot of Gil. But then again i sure would not like to start over but i think it be best if they make craft hard to level and limit how many you can level. Allowing everyone to hit 50 craft is dumb no one really sell anything they just level them up themselfs and make there own stuff.
But really i would not like to start over it's a nice idea but no a lot of people would stay.
