Can we get modern english translation?

How easy is it to "normalize" the entire script after they already gave it its flavor?

Yeah I'm sympathetic to this. While I wouldn't change the dialogue, it would be nice if you could get the option to at least have easier to understand english, maybe rather than a complete overhaul..

Unfortunately you're not going to have an overwhelmingly positive reception to this on here because other players ~love~ to dictate the way others play this game.

Yes, it is. Of course, nobody speaks it in FFXIV. Old English is literally a different language from Modern English, which is what everybody in FFXIV speaks in the English version. Apparently the specific dialects some characters speak stretches some people's vocabularies. Don't panic, it's good for you.

It's kind of integral to each character...It's exactly like making certain characters stop using a certain accent. I guess I wouldn't complain if people were given the option, but I myself would never use it, as it would take away from the diversity of characters' backgrounds...

Personally I find the characters very 1 dimensional compared to characters games like Dragon Age and Witcher 3 for an example. Those games are able to do it right and cool in a way its so much better and it feels right. Here the characters are very 1 dimensional and your character is a mindless mute just following a set path. Im not saying this is bad story telling just the characters are a bit weak.

There's a reason why old English is not used today.

I'm with the TC on this one. As much as some people like it, a lot also hate it. An option to choose would be great for future expansions.

I'd rather see an ingame glossary of words that are more common in eorzea than our world.

This is a japanese game made by Japanese writers this game was localized by english people how they wanted the game to be. Do this with an Anime such as One piece or Dragon ball z Sailor moon and its no where the same as the what the author envisioned those characters to be. A true precise Japanese to English translation is the correct way the game should be translated. Doing it in this broken made up English language is imo near garbage compared to games/etc like Dragon age, Witcher series, Lord of the rings and so on.
