Serious SE? Really?!

You all act like you've never been to a release. Regardless of technical difficulties, it is a successful launch.

You have no idea how a live server is going to handle a patch--each server requires it's own stress test, and individually, may incur unique issues of their own. They are working on fixing the problems, calm down, walk your dog, do some HIITs, watch a funny movie, play another game with minimal investment and check back later.

It's not having low expectations, it's being realistic. No server can undertake any amount of preparation that would completely prevent things like this from happening. It's just not possible.

Its funny, someone actually thinks, it woulds be easy to get on Balmung today.

Sometimes I wish they would just announce that Balmung is permanently locked, then we could stop seeing these threads.

I've played multiple MMO's. Some on their most populated RP servers. For all the flak I give World of Warcraft, if I already had a character on a server, and I still have character space available on that server, I'd be able to make an alt regardless of server lock conditions. And WoW has also had a few successful expansion launches in the past that didn't kill servers. And SE is a way bigger brand name than Activision-Blizzard. So I do expect better honestly.

Either you don't have much experience with MMOs or you're just extremely impatient- either way, just chill out... It's going be crowded and it's going to be hard to log on for the next week or so. I suggest finding a good movie or tv show you like and play it in the background. You could listen to music and get your frustrations out that way. And yes, you could even get up and do something outside while you wait, as I'm sure plenty of people have already suggested... (Though it'd defeat the purpose of trying to log on and play)

This free advice goes to everyone who feels the urge to rage at their computer screen right now.

People seem to forget that an MMO launch basically amounts to a sustained DDOS attack on the servers. Of COURSE there would be issues.

This is why I stay away from the heavily populated servers like Balmung. Moogle is running gloriously right now. Had no issues today at all *watch it crash now*

This is almost exactly whats happening, people try, fail, try again, fail, whine on forums (fail), try again....sometimes the forums even go down from people whining.

I was going to wake up early to get an hour or two in before work, but my better senses just told me it was a waste of time. I KNEW this was going to happen...

If anything, this is just an indication of how popular the game is. But you couldn't name me a single popular game, P2P or otherwise, that managed to avoid this issue.
