A Different Way to Play

The problem at hand is, that jobs are focused for a main task while classes can be used to be more of a hybrid and can help to expand your abilities towards the other roles at the price of efficiency in your main task.

So basically what you are doing is making the other dps work harder (since someone needs to compensate for the dmg you are not doing) to slightly carry either the tank or the healer. The thing is you are not gaining any significant boost in your healing or tanking capabilities for the price in dps you pay. Your heals are basically the same and a titan egi is a better tank than topaz carbuncle, not even mentioning that you are basically making the tanks job more difficult, since a tank pet deals less damage and is more difficult to hold hate against.

If you actually wanted to be a good hybrid, it would be much better to go either tank or healer and work on maximising your dps. For instance the healing requirements in wod are so low that a SCH's fairy can solo heal most of it, while both healers are in cleric stance dpsing (thats basically what i do on my SCH in WoD).

I am going to be brutally honest here with you, it seems to me you want the nice feeling of having contributed to the groups success but dont want to be responsible if anything goes wrong (helping heals but dont want to be an actual healer). If you wanted to be a hybrid, cue as SCH or WAR and have fun.

Classes are objectively worse than jobs almost without exception. The one exception is MRD playing as DPS, as the crystal and job skills do basically nothing for them and the extra cross class skills can help a lot, but if you do that anywhere other than in PVP you are bad and you should feel bad.

It doesn't help that the job crystals themselves raise the stats of the player, in addition to skills that the class cannot match with their role. I wish classes were made into jobs of their own if they were going that route.

originaly the "classes" were meant for solo play. Since more options for heals and buffs. And jobs for party play. To use a class at lvl 50 in a party is jsut a slap in the face of a group. If your healer/tank cant do there jobs than you need a new group

Your playstyle is wrong.

To answer your question, no, you are not the only or first person to make a class viable. You can do dungeons with 3 mrd and a cnj and its quite entertaining lol. That being said, jobs are part of upward progression, its not an optional side to change playstyle, it most certainly increases everything good about a class and gets rid of the pre-30 filler abilities you get from cross classing.

I see you have reasons but those are more defensive arguments as to how you like to use it, but my question is why did you decide to do it in the first place? You love carby and didnt want to be smn or sch? or do you have a practical reason like thinking it is more effective to have the extra support? Im also thinking in some of those dungeons if they only had a little more dps some wouldnt have died from a prolonged fight and the support you provided wouldnt have been needed at all.

No offense to anyone wanting to play like this, have as much fun as you want, it doesnt bother me. But if you come into final coil or any other actual end game (wod is not end game) thinking topaz is just fine then you have completely underestimated the content. Most coil turns make Wod look like nap time and you would be carried through this if won. Even if you survived all mechanics and think you did well, there is a dps picking up your slack to make the check.

Yup, thats what was said way back in 1.0 after jobs were added originally. As of ARR jobs are a progression step, not an option. Its much like FF1 giving bahamut items to upgrade your original jobs to advanced jobs.

EDIT: Also Im curious how you do in EX primals with your style. Have you done titan ex? Ramuh ex? even garuda ex?

Well, you can do it for RP purposes or solo purposes, but in dungeons and general group content, if you using a class over your job, you are just underperforming.

If you doing something solo, its okay to go a class and take 10 slots of cross-class, specially with mrd, brd, whm and monk, since yours jobs skills are more oriented to group play. Otherwise, no, just no.

Why is everyone being polite about this? I'm honestly curious. Is this not the same type of person that has spawned constant bellyaching from both sides of the playerbase about weaker players' skill and stronger players' impatience?

I've ran into some healing arcanists/summoners as well. There's a right time for helping the healer, and then there's a wrong time. Sometimes crap hits the fan: healer is low on mp, more mobs get pulled and tank starts dropping like a rock. Extra heals will be appreciated in those situations. Anything else is unnecessary and lowers the total dps of the group. It can also make your healer unhappy when someone takes over their job. Edit: I must also add that the cross class skills you get as arcanist are not useful enough to justify not getting summoner abilities. Stoneskin or Protect for example can be given by pld, whm and sch so there's no need for you to have it.

OP, you mention that you don't like healing in raids but do fine in other content. So why not play scholar in easy duties (you get to dps while healing), and summoner in raids? I totally understand why people want to play a hybrid class, but unfortunately this game doesn't support it very well. Healers and tanks doing some dps on the side is as close as it gets.
