I sure as hell don't sit at the market board all day...not sure where you got that from. The problem is you guys are checking/adjusting your price too often causing other to do the same.
I think what I'm trying to say is people need to be more patient. Who cares if something sells now or 20 minutes from now.

Thank you for that, it really should be a thing that happens~
If I don't agree with the listed price for an item I'm selling, I hold off until the low price items have sold, and I can sell at the price I feel the item is worth. I'm not investing my time into farming and crafting only to barely make any gil. Also, when undercutting, I only undercut by 3 gil. I hate hate hate when people undercut by hundreds+.
I know Im probably going to get flamed for bringing this up.... but.... RMT is probably a big reason that the markets fluctuate so much. In every MMO there is always RMT, but when they simply let it run rampant like it is now, then you have even bigger problems.
I wasn't exaggerating when I said things don't sell for a week and I look at the market board and the standard price has actually dropped by 50-75% and there's no prospects in the long run of it selling back at the normal price. I'm not letting it sit there for a month in hopes that prices might go back up.
I tried the buying out all the cheap stuff and reselling approach but then I had to fight with undercutters literally an hour later and it was beyond stressful and time consuming... just for the price to eventually drop once again. I barely managed to sell them to get my money back without a loss lol.
Feels like a little bit of an exaggeration. I use the market board a lot and while price drops and rises do happen, I dont see to many radical 75% swings. Ultimately the market comes down to supply and demand. It sounds to me that you may be setting your prices to high when there is to great of a supply in the market.
I usually sell stuff within hours of listing it. I usually pick a price point that is 10 to 15% below the market and my stuff sells quickly. So something that I would sell for 5,000 gil I would usually sell for 4,300 gil, and it almost always sells quickly. Granted sometimes undercutting makes it "not worth it", but if the extra 10% is the difference between it being "worth it or not" then you are probably selling the wrong items in the first place.
EDIT: Thought I would also add that prices always drop in mmos before new expansions come out. Hope that helps! :P When the expansion does come out expect 300% price increases! lol
Different servers, different markets. I mean my server is RMT central network. We even have an FC of bots I noticed it seeing some black mage bots with garbled names standing around:
