Not at all. No one said it has to work the same way for NPCs (should probably toss in an exception for pets though). Evasion could also become its own stat.

I also don't buy the argument that FFXIV's stat system is too simple to get rid of acc. It's pretty simple, that's true. But that's not a reason to do away with an uninteresting stat. It's definitely a pretty good reason to make the system more complex by adding stats that provide real gearing choices though!

I'm really baffled by this thread. Just for the record, I think the dev team is about as likely to remove accuracy as they are to critical hit rate, determination, or weapon damage simply by the amount or work it would be.

No one would gain any amount of secondary stats if they removed accuracy, you would still have whatever pool of det/crit/SS to work with but then you wouldn't have to worry about meeting accuracy value to make sure you never miss. The two top tier gearsets would then have 3-4 secondary stats to distribute among them instead of 4-5, and it would simply be a determination of which is better because all the other secondary stats are linearly weighted. Then, that one piece of gear would be 100% indisputably BiS because it has better weighted stats. THAT is boring.

Additionally, I'm numb to big numbers, it doesn't make a hill of beans of difference whether you have 500 determination or 50,000, it only depends upon how much the game expects you to have.

Actually there are pretty good ways you can "miss" a dragon. Most major tabletop RPGs have some sort of AC or other "to-hit" system, but it isn't necessarily that you actually "miss" them. A set of full-plate-mail reduces enemies' chances of hitting a character because the enemies can glance off, inflicting no significant damage. Have you seen the 2nd & 3rd Hobbit movies? How are they able to slay Smaug? It's certainly not because they overpowered him. Accuracy can be important, even in hitting big-ass dragons.

Even if someone can determine the accuracy cap for content and then publish it for everyone else's benefit, it's still up to players to choose gear that meets that cap if they don't want to miss. I keep seeing people call the stat "useless" but then claim that you need the stat up to a certain point. Aren't those two in direct conflict? I mean, even if you don't need anymore than 500 or whatever accuracy, that certainly doesn't make the 150 on your gear at the time useless.

I don't think anyone is arguing that. Complexity in gear and skill are totally different. No matter what gear system the dev team chooses, it's pretty simple for someone to set up a spreadsheet or calculator that can determine for any given person what their personal best choice for gear is.

Final points, accuracy has appeared in some form in every main series Final Fantasy game since Final Fantasy I, in addition to being a staple stat across a huge number of other turn based RPGs. It is distinctly absent in action RPGs, because missing is due to player faults, not inherent imperfections of the players being controlled. Here's where there's an argument, should FFXIV fall more towards the turn based games or the action based games, should it be more like Pokemon or Bloodborne? I prefer turn-based games, and I like the accuracy system so I'd prefer it stay.

haha, you are right. because there is no evasion stat at all :x

Accuracy is just an archaic idea. Hit caps are terrible and obscure game mechanisms.

Take summoner for example, a caster class who needs to deal with two caps because ifrit is treated with a flanking melee cap while the summoner has his lower caster cap. It's just dumb an unnecessary to have a stat that becomes...worthless at a certain point.

I think it would be nice to have acc tweaked, because as it stands, it is boring.

Something like acc lower than certain threshhold, players have a chance to fumble, dealing lower damage.

Right now, its either you meet req or not which does in a way hurts the gear customisation. Its basically meet acc req than work on secondary stats as best as you can right?

I'm sorry, as a player who came from FFXI where gear swapping was almost insanely absurd to be good at your job, I find FFXIV to be excessively restrictive. Thing is, with how battle is built having gear swaps is meaningless anyway.

The biggest complaint I have about gear is that there tends to be rather poor stat allocation given the way jobs function at times requiring players to have a mix of multi-tier items/crafted times to make up some of the slack while sacrificing primary stat. Then there is the hard cap on gear that requires you to switch into higher ilvl items to meet min requirements then slip back to that gear once inside....simply because the stat allocation is stupid. Excessive SS, Acc, etc over a good even mix of stats along similar tiers. I would prefer there to be more endgame content giving better gear build options than there currently is...or for SE to pull their head out of you know where and stop making some of the slots have horrible options in all tiers of new gear.

I think the meaning of accuracy is fine as it is. Under the threshold you have a % to miss the attack, that's what accuracy is about.

If anything, accuracy above threshold should increase the % chance of getting a critical hit as your attacks become more accurate with higher accuracy points, and crit points changed to crit to affect multiplier instead.

At least in FFXI, accuracy was weighed against evasion. I dont think there's a visible evasion stat in this game and we can't check a mob's evasion to gauge our accuracy. In ffxi you can /check a mob and unless it was a boss or special type of mob(an NM is comparable to a hunt in ffxiv) it gave you a rough estimate of your hit rate. Accuracy does nothing 1-49 as you generally have enough acc to hit any mob within 5 levels of you...it goes pretty much ignored. Determination is also kinda weird but i guess it replaces the ffxiv 1.0 version of piety(which used to affect magic attack, and physical attack and is why drg has a high pIety compared to other non mages(they never readjusted drgs piety after changing what piety does...yay for drg mp).
