I'm not convinced. Look at the Def jump from 40-50 and 30-40.
It doesn't scale at all the same as the ilvl jumps. That is to say if ilvl 40 was the same as lvl 40.

ilvl 51-54(or 53, can't remember) or such will have lower ilvl gear than 130 gear. You can round out I guess for higher.
What gear are you talking about? The only gear with the same ilvl and different equip levels has the same def/mdef/attribute caps when you look at the same class/job requirements. example:

You can come up with DoW/all jobs gear vs tank gear of the same ilvl, but it's not the same thing. Gear class plus ilvl determines max stats on an item.

Required Level 40 - 50 is a 44% increase in Defense. (and yet it is only an increase of 10 ilvls)
ilvl 55-130 is a 15% increase in Defense, but is 75 ilvls
So Required Level 60 @ ilvl 130 will be 167 Defense? That does not make sense to me given the previous scaling.
I don't think that those Aetherial items should be included in the gear scaling. They seem to be a bit of an anomaly as they are really just HQ items from a higher tier that you are allowed to, in some cases, equip sooner.

But in saying that I doubt be would see Required Level 60 - ilvl 130 anyways.
I'm just stating that this whole jump from 50 - 60 seems really strange.
I am pretty sure people who believe we will be replacing our 130 gear at level 51 are in for a surprise as well. Also to the person you quoted its already been stated that ilvls are not increasing as much as we are use to until 3.1, so a 40 ilvl jump isn't going to happen just from going to 60.
If we compare like for like

It seems that in this case the defense of an item relative to its level increases at a declining rate as your level increases in percentage terms.
Green:
15(17): Plundered Cuirass 44 def. 3 vit
24(26): Eternal Shade 63 def. 5 vit (9 levels = 43.2%) (adjusted 48%)
32(34): Cavalry Cuirass 85 def. 8 vit (8 levels = 35%) (adjusted 43.7%)
44(46): Sentinels Cuirass 127 def. 9 vit (12 levels = 49.4%) (Adjusted 41.2%)
50(55): Vermilion Haubergeon, AF 146 def. 15 vit (9(11 ilv) levels = 15%)
This clearly shows a massive drop off after 50, since they don't all increase at linear levels it is hard to be consistant on what the increases are but it is clearly following a similar trend to the NQ equipment until it hits 50.
If you was to follow the natural figures you would be looking somewhere below a 37% increase over 50-60 in def terms eg: cobalt cuirass 111 def = ~152 def for a level 59 NQ cuirass. Maybe somewhere around 38% for a green piece so you would expect at an equipment level 54 item level 56 ~175 def.
Now post 50 current gear looks like this

I assume this is just purely for balance and the increases in stats is what is more important than defence here there is a difference of 19 in defence but 41 in VIT. If you then go back and look at the primary VIT stat between all the previous gear it increases by a tiny amount until it hits 50 where it skyrockets. 3vit - 10vit (+7) between 20-49, from item level 60-90 you gain +15 VIT which is much more per item level than before.
Looking on from this it seems square will have a bunch of rebalancing to do as either:
A: Current i130 gear have too much in raw statistics. STR/VIT etc...
B: Current i130 gear have too little defence.
My assumption would be as stated earlier they take a middle ground (i90) and continue on from there for 51+ up until 60 where they will begin at 140+. Then it is anybody's guess whether they decide to follow earlier formula's for adding on defence or continue on with their current one at level 50, I can't find any evidence to prove what square may be doing for gear post 50 and there are so many ways they could do it.
