Which City-State (or simply Class) do you think will make the most sense for Au Ra?

If I was you I would wait and see what revelations arise through 2.55 as something will happen to allow Yugiri to feel comfrotable enough to unveil. So maybe something happens in 2.55 that makes the Au-Ra acceptable in some or all of the city states. Also remember that the Ishgardians will allow Au Ra the same access to their city as every other race so they must do something pretty impressive to break through that barrier the Ishgardians have built up around them selves (not talking a physical or magical barrier) but their distrust of anyone not Ishgardian.

How much do you know about the paladin storyline?

without spoiling too much... a major running theme (Well, THE major running theme) is regaining lost honor. I can go in depth if you want, but it might be more fun to play through.

Alternatively, maybe you've already played through it/know it... In that case, what didn't you like about it? AFAIK, that's the closest you're going to get to such a theme, but on the other hand, other job quests do involve restoring/recovering lost arts, etc if that would work. If PLD won't work, perhaps Summoner?

And, for Au Ra specific stuff and DRK; like another poster said, we really just have to wait a bit for the reveals/info dump.

Spoil away! Really, anything to help me decide. Even when you use Fantasia potions, it keeps track of your starting Class and City-State, so the more I know about the Gladiator/Paladin stories, as well as Marauder/Warrior stories, the easier a decision should be :)

You obsess far too much over trivial things... I was once like that with the city/states until I generally stopped caring. Ul'dah/Gladiator start for me. I'm not remotely defined by what city I stop at to get a snack.

Based on the research done by some awesome folks in this thread: http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...ng-Conventions it does seem that Yugiri's name must come from the fact that she's Doman, and not because she's an Au Ra. The Doman naming conventions are too complex (first and last name must be related) to work in a random name generator, so it's likely that regular Au Ra will have a different set of naming conventions. And based on that, it's likely that most Au Ra will come from somewhere other than Doma.

Every character comes from some place other than the cities though, and Doman naming could be simplfied by just going "Japanese Name Natural phenomenon"

New Au Ra characters will have to go through the 2.0 storyline, I wonder how much are they going to change those quests to accommodate them? They've been pretty consistent so far about updating the story.

Yeah, I also kind of wonder how they're going to handle that. Not that there aren't the occasional inconsistencies, but it's definitely a pretty massive plot-point for the Main Scenario, so I'm eager to see how they address it (which, even if they completely overlook it, I'll be happy just to see a new Race, just a bit disappointed :P).

It's going to be hilarious when a new Au Ra player gets to the part of the storyline with the Domans and Yugiri comes on the scene talking about how she has to hide her appearance for fear of being ostracized. "Uh, Yugiri, it's okay. I'm an Au Ra and I'm the Warrior of Light. Half of Eorzea thinks I'm the best person on the planet."
