I sorta rather run the high end stuff for desynth... really enjoyed all the i90 myth gear/accessories in the previous roulette - new roulette are ok, have a bit more fail rate on i100.
Running silly things like old WP/AK would be kind of boring =/ and the dungeons themselves barely give you any tomes.
And SE - plz add glamour weapons to dungeons to let blacksmiths/alchemist/carpenters get freebie desynths too!

This isnt terribly related to op. While I generally agree with that sentiment about the willingness to do grinds, I find that most people that hate grinds tend to do then in the least efficient way possible. Your list of tasks and hours reminds me of that. Pretty much all of the book tasks can be multi tasked to cut down that time dramatically. Instead of standing next to a fate spawn for 2 hrs, cue up for a dungeon, kill 10 mobs in the zone. I would cue for all 3 dungeons, teleport to all 3 zones to see if fate was up. If no fates go kill 10 mobs, then check all 3 fates again. 10 mobs. Check fates. Dungeon pop, repeat etc. "But what if I miss the fate!" Then you did something else that advances you instead and you must ask yourself the alternative "what if the fate didn't pop?". Then you wasted 2 hrs. Doing simple things like this you will cut down on the grind. (Particularly as dps with long cue times. Less of a deal for tank heals).
That 80 hrs of time gets cut down dramatically if you do it smart. Work smarter not harder. Most evil grinds aren't nearly as bad if you just do them efficiently instead of 'least effort' like watching netflix for 3 hrs waiting for 1 fate. Gratz your evening after work consisted of 1 fate for you books. Its no wonder some people think this stuff is impossible.

Speaking as someone who can't even clear Amdapoor because of a bug that makes the client crash everyone I go in, this would be great as 3 days in I still cannot unlock the new expert roulette

I won't disagree. Animus books can obviously be cut down quite a bit which is why I mostly took the low end for my estimates when I totaled to 80 (I'm assuming efficiency). I feel that 80 is a "conservative answer" (the I'm not sure if I would bet my life on doing it faster than 80 hours type of answer). Killing the 100 mobs would always take me 2 hours when all was said and done. It would only seem like an hour tops - but when I clocked it, it would be 2 hours (travel time and the 3 max spawns can take up more time than you think). Leves I could typically clear 5-7 minutes a pop (travel time / finish).
So yeah - let's assume that with extreme efficiency you could kill the 900 enemies / complete the leves all while waiting for the duty finder. Lets say the dungeons average out to 30 minutes (the lowbie ones can definitely take longer than 30 minutes purely because actions are limited and you are often paired with new playesr). You're looking at 13.5 hours for dungeons, 18 hours for enemies, a few hours for leves and the remaining is farming for Tomes to buy books and the fates. There are still a few fates that take a couple hours plus to pop regardless if you complete the fates that pop around you. If you're being conservative - I still think you need to say an hour per fate (you're not going to risk leaving your fate camp to enter a duty or to spend 10 minutes in a different zone waiting for your 10 mobs to spawn). So taking the efficiency approach, you're roughly at 60 hours plus the farm time it takes to buy the books.
I'm sure you guys will push for cutting the fate time in half to around 13.5 hours. So be it - with tomestone farming time I think you're still in the 60-80 hour range (with 80 being the conservative answer even when you apply efficiency).
Basically what I'm trying to do is provide a realist answer. I'm not always playing FFXIV like it's my job where I'm fully attentive 100% of the time. There's going to be dilly dallying. My 80 hour estimate is a conservative answer for the average player. -

Yes I'm aware people can work on more than one weapon at a time, but if you're doing that then the use you have for the alexandrite is either tweaking an existing weapon, or working on a second weapon.
Add to that, the dungeons really aren't that hard. Like, at all.
While it would be nice to have an additional version for the HL roulette, I don't really see the problem with the version for the EX roulette since the Animus you need to start earning Alexandrite is the same level as the gear that actually drops there.
Now, if it were 110 gear I would agree with you, but this is just the right amount of challenge for a daily to upgrade a weapon to 110 or tweak a 115+ weapon's stats. If anything, it was too EASY before. -

Well... I have read all post up to this point. While I also understand the sentiment of those who like the current setup, I also did notice a significant change since patch were up. It's only like 2-3 daily DR ex and I saw the waiting time takes more longer before it commences. This is not really a good sign especially for DPS role like me. Now it took like averagely 30 minutes instead of 10 minutes before patch 2.5.
And for those who still throwing "casual" excuse, you need to be more specific as how "casual" did you meant when you say those things, because from what I read so far, it's more than just standard "casual" and leaning a bit more to "hardcore". So please stop using the word, unless you can provide the fact that majority does not have much problem like you think.
Another thing, not all people like RNG, better if they can avoid it altogether. For example, LS mates did test this FATE farming to farm Alex, and most of them say that the drop rate are still not worth the trouble. There is someone who are lucky and get quick with it. But the fact still remains: RNG is RNG, it would still mess alot of people. So I also would not like to prefer this excuse as ease-up methods as several of poster claims, even if they proves it themselves.
All in all, the fact still stands though that the current expert roulette are not balanced for a quest that is 2-3 patches away.
