A lot of people feel the need to make their entire life about their sexuality, gender, or fetishes. It's really really silly and pathetic.

Anything with equal rights or whatever is touchy.
I'm just happy we can all enjoy the event no matter gender because
whether not you could marry same-sex was up in the air for a LOOOOONG time.
I'm sad to say this is one of those "People find anything to complain about..." thing.
Just come on people lol.
They had to think about it because of all the backlash they'd get.
SE was damned if they did or didn't. It was thought about for a while.
Had a tough choice.
I get the feeling it was actually suggested, but the design team, after months of working on the new armor and clothing recipes, just heaved a deep sigh...
...and collectively threw their tablets at the person who suggested it, because they had enough work to deal with.
In all seriousness, the amount of work that goes into designing and texturing armor and clothing that looks GOOD is a lot more than some would believe.
Combine that with the fact that most males would probably not WANT to wear a dress other than as a gag, and it's just not worth the extra effort.
Same-sex marriage still isn't a thing in Eorzea, although same-sex relationships seem to be completely fine. Marriage just seems to be a thing of business rather than love. Just like it was on Earth until very recently. Eternal Bonding isn't marriage, and the devs make a really big point of saying that. So nothing has changed except that the devs decided to find a way to bring same-sex marriages in, when they were originally extremely wary of it.
Looked at the OP again and don't see anything about sexuality, gender, or fetishes. Just a desire to be allowed to wear what they want, which female characters are allowed to do. It's actually a big reason why I play a female character: more gear options, so I consider it the superior choice.
It's right there in the game. You know how male characters can't equip female items? You know how you see only one man in a dress and it's presented as a joke? Right there. The game doesn't need to come right out and say 'SKIRTS ON MEN ARE SOCIALLY UNACCEPTABLE, WARRIOR OF LIGHT.'
