What about people who get a second character on the same account just for storage and whatnot? You'll have to get them to 10 just to use them?

my answer to most things in this game i don't like is make it equal, rmt are gonna throw money and more accounts at the problem while we suffer for it. it's se's way of making money from multi accounts from them not fixing it. once someone mentioned adding a password code like most sites have where it asks you to type a word ...like ANchovia BanaANA, you type the caption and then u can go back to crafting, this will stop any and all botters that are not sitting in front of a pc 24hrs a day. granted it doesn't help when people are there at there pc's all day.
but again on the equal, if money can be thrown at it and then it is fixed, anima, mulitiple high lv crafts, gathering and what not then it is a bad system. i personally would rather see no penalty for gathering all day then any, i like to gather in spurts for full days at a time then toss my gear away and go do other stuff for a week or month. in ffxi i fished for a week or 2 maybe when i got into it, i tossed my mule the pole then i didn't touch it for a month to even 5months ..it's just how i play.
rmt tactics should not hurt other players, if it does it is more like a tactic to shut up people who don't like rmt. it's like keep complaining and you'll have to deal with even worse conditions then u already have. on top that we'll keep making money and the rmt will never stop. that just not works for me.
RMT and botters just require resources of the human kind to combat them
They are not hard to spot... You just need enough GM's to engage a suspected botter in conversation.
SE could go to the gil selling sites (incognito)... buy the least amount of gil available and ban the account of whatever character delivers the gil. then check that characters trading and purchasing history and ban or at least flag characters that have engaged in suspicious activity with the known RMT...
It takes effort.. but its not hard to ban at all... with accounts constantly being banned, RMT's will stop paying the extra money for new accounts because there is now more risk involved
@ OP I agree, the attempt to curb RMT only hurts the players and not the RMT. RMT ops have basically unlimited resources.
Most GM reports I make on bots often receive an automated response that more or less says they will look into it, thank you for the report yada yada. But more importantly at the end it suggests I should make a report to the Special Task Force.
Now, I know where to go for this, but it seems odd we can't do this directly in game. It would great if we had a form specifically for reporting bots from the support desk menu in game. Make it similar to the GM call option, but add a text box to enter their names separate from the 'information' box (since it has a character limit, if you are reporting a bot gang you may run out of room to add details). Maybe include a drop down to specify what kind of bot you suspect it is (i.e. gather bot, monster camp, leve farmer, craft bot).
If a separate post suggesting this were to be made, would anyone be in support of it?
Multi-boxing and keycloning are not synonymous btw. I'm all for people paying more subs and buying more copies of the game but if they are cloning keys across the instances of the game, then I would put that up in the botting category.
