My main class is every class I have at level cap and play frequently.
All of my soldiery stuff is spread across a lot of classes.
If that doesn't meet your definition of "main" class, that's not my problem.

I play PLD in T6 and T7 and BLM in T8 and T9. They're the same item levels. So...I dunno what to tell you.
This would matter if there was an actual gap between raid and group gear. But there is hardly one now (and not meaningful since you can easily clear 6-9 without being over ilvl 100) and in the next few weeks that gap will disappear.
Size of groups also contributes to it.
I still only call 1 class my main (cause it makes no sense to say you have multiple mains... there is always 1 your going to prioritize.... Simple way to get this answer out of people is to ask which class they are working on their novus on) but I have 3 alts that are fully capable of doing 6-9.
While I main BLM because I enjoy the overall playstyle. I could also main SMN, DRG, and WAR yet I don't because I don't like the overall SMN/DRG design and I prefer not to Tank for strangers and have to put up with their whining.
I main summoner. It's my best geared job and the only one so far with an ATMA weapon. It's also the job I use when trying new content for the first time. I substitute as a healer when necessary, though. I'm working on gearing up white mage now so that I'm at least i90 (currently at i86).
Or you can play several roles and master all the classes.
While people typically only have one "main" class for raiding, some groups are flexible and they don't always go as the same roles. There are many people with equally high item levels on their jobs and have mastered how to play them.
I've got a full 8 characters and play all of them with different levels of frequency, but I can say that my "main" really depends on what I'm doing and what my party needs. I prefer different characters for different classes over dropping them all on one (strange for this game? maybe, but I like variety, and I've always loved making as many characters as possible in MMOs), so...yeah, it's pretty easy to have multiple mains. Doesn't have anything to do with ilvl, for me, they don't have to be exactly the same, it just depends on how often I play them. I know plenty of others in the exact same situation who wouldn't pin down a "main", either.
